And your opinion is based on...?

Hey guys.

Just wanted to know how much does the game you've started the Elder Scrolls series with effects your likes/dislikes of the new game mechanics due to the recent Fan Interview.

I would very much like you to put into details the reasons why you don't like it, and don't forget to vote :) It can bring us a better picture of why is the perception of the different crowds here is so different.

I voted:

Question 1: I played Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion.

Question 2: Armor merged: I started playing the series with Morrowind and I'll have to play to judge first.

Question 3: Romance: I started playing the series with Morrowind and I am disappointed.

Question 4: Fast Travel: I started playing the series with Morrowind and I am disappointed.

Question 5: Same Speed and Jump Height: I started playing the series with Morrowind and I'll have to play to judge first.

Thanks for sharing in advance!

/Dark.

I've played Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion, began with Oblivion, and am indifferent on everything but fast-travel... which I like.

Started with Morrowind and am happy about everything but Running speed, Which I don't care about enough to whine.

Overall I like the general direction the crunch is moving in, since it eliminates lots of the problems the old system had, but there's some things where they're throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Why remove variable speeds? It makes no sense. I used to be in the "good riddance to attributes" camp because I took it at face value when Todd Howard said that everything the attributes governed is still in the game, but now it seems like that's not the case, and we'll have to resort to some sort of attributes mod to compensate for the over-simplified system. That means console users are out of luck unless they can push through with the console mods thing.

I started with Morrowind, but have played Daggerfall and Oblivion as well.

I hate what they are doing with the armor, and I dislike that every race will have the same running speed.

I like the addition of relationships with NPCs, I think it's an interesting idea.

I'm not sure if I like the travel-system. I have to play first.

I agree to an extent.

I agree with the perception that the series is being simplified, but I disagree with the fact that attributes aren't replaced as they should be. I think they have made a wise step with this direction. As for everything else... I tend to think of it as simplifying the series. But that's just my opinion.

Started with Morrowind, played Daggerfall afterwards and then I bought Oblivion months after it's release. Overall, I'm happy with the general direction of the game.

I have tried DF and it wasn't my cup of tea so I have "played" MW and OB.
I am happy enough about armor being merged since it will be supported with a higher amount of armors than any other ES game.
I am rather concerned that the relations will be unrealistec or at least poorly done, but if they manage to make them seem natural and realistic I'm all for it as it opens many RP options.
Having both MW and OB style of traveling can't be a bad thing IMO.
I honestly don't see a propblem with all races having the same running speed and jumping heights. Whats so bad about that?

Hey, I played Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion. There's no option for that! :P Oh well, I'm getting Morrowind soon so I chose the option that included it. I started with Oblivion, anyway.

Anyway, the only thing I'm really not digging is the same movement speeds. That to me just seems, well, stupid o_O. It made sense in Fallout, since you could only play as one race. Plus it's obvious that some races are just naturally faster and more agile than others. The only thing that I could see possibly making sense is that since your speed is probably based off of your encumbrance and equipment, and increasing fatigue affects encumbrance, higher encumbrance capacity and lower carried weight will overall increase your speed...? Either way, not my favorite choice from Bethesda.

Everything else I'm pretty much fine with.

I started with Oblivion and then Morrowind.

I am disappointed with the merging of the armour, but if there really are loads of new unique beautifull sets of armour I will be ok with the change

I am very happy with romance. when I first joined the forums a couple of months back I was flamed for mentioing that I wanted it included so

I would like no instant fast travel. Travel should be done on foot, horse or carriage. None of this blank screen for 3 seconds........ oh look where we are now

I am disappointed that speed and jump heights are the same. I thought Todd said that instead of adding new races they wanted to make the ones they have more diverse........ well......what are you doing then. A khajiit should have the highest running and jumping stats of any race. Even if another race was maxed out on running speed, a maxed out Khajiit should always be faster. The same as an Orc should always be the strongest race when maxed out.

Oh well rant over!

I'm fine with them replacing the attributes, it's just that they didn't replace all the [censored] attributes.

You're probably one of the few. The latest news has been harsh on some groups of people.

Also it appears that the Daggerfall crowd is mostly disappointed with features, afterwards comes the Arena crowd, then comes the people who've played Morrowind and then the people who has started playing the series with Oblivion, which are most happy with the new features.

So there IS a difference. :)

I have played every TES game and I like the direction that the series is heading. DA2 was a joke and I understand people getting nervous and thinking they are simplifying everything so that they can cash in on the COD cash. Truth is they are making a game that is streamlined, you can jump in and play. Evolution has to happen to the game. The speed thing I do find odd seeing that Lore has my Redguards as one of the three fastest races, but running about like a freakin cheetah is stupid and takes away from the immersion of the game. Romance is not something I care about, but on my second playthrough I might grab me a tavern wench the wash the blood out of my clothes and polish my short sword when I get home. Finally, fast travel is the greatest thing to happen to TES personally, I dont want to have to backtrack to a place that I have already discovered. I like that they blended Morrowind and Oblivion systems here. I find it hard to wait for this game. The state of games has been pretty poor lately and I am hoping that TES: Skyrim helps me stay in love with this passion of mind called Gaming.

i can see where the disappointments come from. and i can sympathize.
ive been playing since morrowind. since age 12. so. i havent experienced the prior games. i will at some point im sure.
just the changes so far havent upset me in anyway. so im happy about that.
but i can see where they would upset other people.

I tried playing Arena - but dos box got the better of me

I have Daggerfall and am yet to play it

Done Morrowind (well actually I haven't left it since I got it) and Oblivion - would love to play Redguard

Don't care about armour as I play without armour for as long as possible

Romance is interesting but if it is like Fable I'll be really annoyed

I enjoyed Guild Guides and Mark and Recall in Morrowind - don't really like fast travel that you don't pay for

Speed is a non - issue I always hated how slow my Breton would go to begin with

Well, I'm rather disappointed as I really hope someday fast travel will make a return as being a part of the world rather than a UI system. The carriage system is nice but we're not sure if you have to pay for it or if it's free of charge and just helps you discover places faster... or what?

I liked Morrowind's fast travel, like boats you could sail, planning your route, the hardship of discovery etc.

Again, just my take on the matter. :)

Started with Arena, played all of them.
Disappointed about armor merging. The amount of customization having the separate pieces offered was pretty cool.
Happy about romance. It could be fun. More ways of interacting with NPCs is welcome.
Happy about fast travel. I prefer being able to fast travel back to any town I've been to, but it's nice they'll have the carriages also.
Happy about races having the same speed and jump height. I'd not want to have it different but based on race only.

I started with Morrowind, then Oblivion, then went back and played Daggerfall, Battlespire, and Redguard. I've also played the first quest or two of Arena.

I am happy with merged armor.
I am skeptical about romantic relationships, but I am keeping an open mind and willing to give it a shot in Skyrim.
I am very happy about the fast travel system. I'm glad that there is a carriage system in addition to the instant fast travel, and despite barely using instant fast travel, I would never want it removed.
I could care less about all the races running and jumping the same speed and height. Did this really have a noticeable difference in past games? If so, I don't care still.
