Animal Friend bugged?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 6:49 am

Is the Animal Friend perk bugged? A cyberdog is a dog with cybernetic implants, so they are a cyborg. But most of all, they are still dogs, so they should be affected by the perk.

It's interesting that in the GECK there's an entry on the Animal Friend faction list for the cyberdogs military and police, so why they aren't affected by the perk?

Because they are trained to attack intruders and their thoughts are not affected by how many doggie treats you can carry, it's by their programming.

Cyberdog is a creature, not an animal.

But lore wise, shouldn't they be affected by the perk? Rex it is and is also a creature.

Rex don't attack mole rats because of the perk. Remember the King telling you about it, how he hates mole and giant rats?
And man, this is so true, I was next to the Legion Raid Camp and suddenly Rex starts to growl and runned like the devil.
When I noted, he was killing the mole rats nearby and chase one all the way until the Broc Flower Cave entrence.

I laughed so much. :D

The Animal Friend perk does not apply to companions, however they are still indirectly affected by it.

There are three factions involved here:

Companion
Player
Animal Friend

By default, the player character is a member of the Player faction, all companions are members of the Companion faction, and a list of various critters comprises the membership of the Animal Friend faction. Furthermore, the Companion faction is, by default, allied with the Player faction, and as a result shares all affiliations the Player faction possesses. Taking the first rank of the Animal Friend perk adds the player to the Animal Friend faction as a friend, thus by extension the Companion faction is treated as being friendly too.

Taking the second rank, by the way, promotes you to 'ally' status with the AF faction, which is why they come to your aid during a fight.

It's smart that Cyberdogs weren't affected by the Animal Friend perk because the game was already made easy enough seeing as the Nightstalkers won't attack.

You also have to think about who's brain is in the doggies head.. It may not be a dogs brain or any animals for that matter.

There is a Cyber Dog that does not attack you, but it does not do much else either.

What's the logic on this? So because the animal friend perk made Nighstalkers "friendly", he also can't make cyberdogs friendly?
Despite them being dogs?

For using the Animal Friend perk you have to spend a lot of points in Charisma, is not that the perk is overpowered or easy to take.

You can only use a brains dog in a cyberdog...

But they ARE NOT dogs. they are a hash-up of robot and dog, but not fully dogs. They do NOT qualify for the animal friend per requirements as stated above.

Wrap your head around that already.
