[WIPz] Animated Morrowind

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:13 am

Hello!

I started making some animations for Npcs.
When I'll have at least 4 or 5 of them, I'll release them. Each animation will have its own esp file, this is because they may change some important Npcs and may conflict with other mod.
They can be of course also reused as reasource

Sococius Ergalla

I don't know if you can hear, but there is also a sound for the quill ^_^

Granny Varis in Mournhold.

I was very disappointed the first time she told me "I clean this temple" but she didn't do it.
Now I fixed it ;)

Drummer

Here is a video of a drummer. I made him an Ashlander

The fact they are Npcs, means they can be used on both Better Bodies and vanilla Npcs. Thery are like every other Npc, so you can choose their race, you can choose hair, faces and clothes. They have normal dialogues and react normally if attacked.

Fishman

Khuul is a fishing village

Smith

He can of course buy/sell/repair armor and weapons. And if you use also ABM he can make you armor and weapons at request.

Comments for the animations in progress and suggestions for the future ones are welcome

I do enjoy seeing your work AA :)

Animations are good but it would be a shame to feel if you were walking thorugh Disneyland with NPC's repeating the same animations over and over like a well animatron

Is it possible to pause Socucius to look at you instead of writing flat out?

Am so looking forward to seeing what you do to Taverns :)

This is the best thing ever happened to Morrowind since LGNPC and Great House Dagoth were released.

This is simply unbelievable.

I sincerely hope you keep up the great work for as many NPC's as possible.

INCREDIBLE.

Like notices you, stops writing, stands up, walks to your right. But wait, why would he stand up for you, you're a prisoner, not Nerevarine or something. Or maybe he walks across the room, gets another book and returns to his desk. Only noticing will suffice though.

Yeah, I agree that it would increase the quality of this mod enourmously if he would stop writing when he talks to you or if you stand realy close to him...

i'm pretty sure most animations get interupted when the player is in greeting range, as long as hello isn't set to 0, at least they should...

Brilliant! you made him left-handed too! You know what would be really cool is if he closed the book then looked up after that as the conversation starts(he doesn't seem like the rude sort to me) :liplick:

That would make sense, because in the video Socucius is not technically greeting you quite yet. Its just the class selection dialogue and his voice playing really.

Very cool, animations is one of the things MW lacks the most. But I think the way MW handles animations it will be difficult to achieve more than one animation looping again and again.

Wow, so you've started on this already huh?
I'm gonna have a go at giving some constructive criticism:

A few minor improvements you could make are to add wrist and elbow rotations, bend the fingers and remove/shorten the pause before he starts writing again.
You could also reduce the head rotation or remove it, as people follow the pen mostly with their eyes. Looks a bit robotic at the moment, so try to smooth out the movements.

Ideas for future animations: fishing, various farm animations and for the cammona tong, punching their fist's into their hand's or something equally aggresive.

edit: btw I'm being very nit picky here, so feel free to move on if you want.

That's pretty awesome! The only major thing that bugs me a bit is that his hand is a bit stiff, perhaps you could make the quill and his hand twitter/shake to make it look like he's actually writing?

Besides that it's great, if you want suggestions for future ones I'd make Caius Cosades sit around and drink skooma. :P

Fixed. :P (but then are skooma pipes for smoking?)

Disneyland
But I agree with you. I want the MW world looks less static, and I am planning to rework the animations I make. I imagine I could add some movements, like for example, he could lead an hand to his head for a while.

Do you mean generally when you apporach him or even during the character's creation?
To stand up and go to take a book, would require a lot of scripting work

i'm pretty sure most animations get interupted when the player is in greeting range, as long as hello isn't set to 0, at least they should...

In this one, the Hello is set to 0, this is because otherwise, he could turn at the pc and stand up. Then he seat again and the rotation is how he was facing the pc. I should then use a script to turn him again to the table, So I set hello to 0 to prevent this problems.

You know I just wen through it and he mentions stamping your papers while just standing there. Perhaps you could try a stamping animation?

it would need also something to actually stamp then?

you criticism are always appreciated :) about the fishing is somthing I already want to do (why should exist fishing pole otherwise? ;) ). The Camonna Tong action is something interesting, and I'll give it a try. About the head movement, I did it like that, because I cannot aniamate his eyes to follow the quill, so I had to aniamte the head.

Yes, I'll move also the hand, to give more the idea he is actually writing. I am working on another Npc now, when I finish it, I'll rework sococius :)

That video was really good. There is a mod called Oblivion style spellcasting. Would it be possible to make it aminated?
The mod gives you the option to press C for cast, but their is no amination you just stand their. This would be a really good mod with new amination :)

I always think the possible but extreme ends. It is unfair to ask all that much, but if he looks up for one second and says "Ah, yes", then go on writing, that will fit a couldn't-care-less-bureaucrat. I think, my character deserves a one second attention span.

I think small additions but lots of'em will give at least a head start and idea, so a second wave can be done, adding extra details. People doing farm work, caring silt striders(How you take care of a silt strider, wash like a car!)...

PS. I saw a daggerfall video today for the first time(I had absolutely no idea! It looks so much like morrowind... I thought it was 2D before. True 3D open environments, day-night cycles, changing weathers, big towns... In 1996, how on earth, I've never stumble upon that game?),and noticed you can climb walls, drive horses. And spell animations are better than Morrowind. More like Bioshock, with spell effects can be seen in the arms. I can't think I can ever play Daggerfall, I heard it is very *rare*. Those things need animations and I agree on people who think it is a step back. Morrowind should take all the good stuff, from oblivion, fallout and daggerfall.

PPS. "Let's start from the beginning:"
In seyda Neen, first think I noticed, lot's of people just standing. Benches and people can sit. Somebody must feed the fire at the lighthouse. In Balmora some constructions can be going on. Like a half way house with actual workers, pushing, carrying, nailing. Or we can stumble upon a festival or a bazaar with actual buyers. There could be a bazaar day(Tuesday), where npcs become customer and cycle through open tables.

Before you start making a bunch of specialized animations for occasions and the like, I would suggest maybe just additions to the gallery of idle animations. Maybe the occasional tapping of a foot or snapping for a finger to give NPCs more life. Or perhaps you could add slightly more aggressive animations to the idle gallery based on disposition, where if you're around someone lower than 25, they start to look annoyed of you still being there. It would be best before adding animations in which NPCs interact with each other, you perfect the ones where the NPC is alone. Just my two drakes.

I personally want player sitting to be possible, but for that you'd need to use Yacoby's PC Mesh generator, plus attach scripts to all sorts of chairs.

Just seeing more people sitting in general would be a major improvement though, it's weird having all sorts of chairs around but nobody sitting on them.

Jeez, is this a WIP thread or a request thread? It sounds like some of you guys are getting a little bit ahead of yourselves.

Great work, Arcimaestro. The animation looks fantastic. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
