Animations with Blender?

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:25 am

Hello all!

I want to start remaking the old Morrowind Animations to make them smoother, so I need some help getting started.

First off I want to use Blender.

So I need to know what version of Blender I need.

I also know that you need PyFFi, Python, NIF Scope, and the NIF scripts. So if someone can post the versions required for those that would be excellent!

Right now I have downloaded:

Blender 2.49b
blender_nif_scripts-2.5.5.90a8d2f-windows
nifskope-1.0.22.8329d39-windows
PyFFI-2.1.5
python-2.6.5 (32 Bit)

I think these are the correct versions I need (please tell me if I am wrong) and i think that is all I need as well (once again please tell me if I am wrong),

I just need to know the order and locations I need to install them, if anybody can point me out to a guide or something similar on how to start this all up I would be most grateful!

Thank you all in advance!!

Arcimaestro Antares produced exactly the guide you want - I downloaded it, but I can't remember where from or where it was linked. Check the Modding section of this forum where he's active and PM him directly if no-one replies with a link.

Ah, fortunately his website link was in his PDF - http://arcimaestroantares.webs.com/linkstutorialstools.htm - bottom of page, tutorials section.

Also the guides don't have info on the install order

it does, but it's implicit. first blender, then pyffi, then nifstuff (not the download for nifskope but http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/blender_nif_scripts/2.5.x/2.5.06/).
just tried that out today (took me some time)
now i can import .nif-files in blender, but i can't figure out blender itself >_> complete noobie

Can I install

Blender 2.49b
Python 3.2
Pyffi (which ever version is newest)
Nif Scripts (which ever version is newest)
then Nif Scope (which ever version is newest)

Would that work okay?

i had python installed before installing any of the other stuff.

also, i reinstalled nifskope before nifscripts, but at the time i wasn't aware of the difference (embarassing, i know).
during nifscript installation it asked me for nifskope, so i guess it would be wise to have nifskope installed prior to installing the nifscripts.

also, i'm happy someone wants to adress the animations. big thumbs up for you and good luck and all that =)

So, since someone already made a thread on this, I'll ask here - can Blender do keyframe animations for faces?

Guess you mean morph animations, which are called "shapekeys" in Blender. Yeah, Blender can do that and a lot more than most people think! ;)

You might already know this information, but I found both of these very helpful:
