Anime suggestions

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 4:09 pm

ok, me and my dad have been using the [censored] out of Netflix, and recently we have been trying to find a good anime on there.

i am looking for suggestions as to what to watch, with 3 restrictions.

1-nothing overtly sixual
2- nothing "Cutsie"
3- has to actually be on Netflix ( i will check the suggestions to see if it is)

i am looking for something with a good story, and interesting characters, preferably not a comedy.

excessive violence is fine, btw

Doesn't look like they have much anime on Netflix, but from the choices I saw on the site I suggest Trigun and FLCL.

The only ones I like is Cowboy Bepbop and DBZ. I suggest the former, and it has a great sound track. Buuuut, she http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090301195814/cowboybebop/images/2/20/Faye_stranded.png most of the time. Not sure if it's on there, as I haven't checked due to laziness.

If you want giant robots with a nior-ish twist and batman feel, The Big O is another good choice. Same voice actors from Cowboy Bepbop (well, Spike and Feye's voice actors). Also, the giant robots are the anti-gundam, as they're big, bulky, slow, and they don't fly.

oh that is fine, i just meant groan inducing stuff like oversized briasts on every single woman. my dad actually likes cowboy bebob, and the movie is on netflix, but not the series.

I don't know what netflix has as far as anime goes, but here's a couple that I would suggest.

1. Trigun - 26 episodes I believe and has a very good story arc. It's not overly violent and there's little to absolutely no sixual themes in it nor is it cutsie.
2. Cowboy Bepop (mentioned) - good story arc and has a nice mixture of jazz music.
3. Ghost In The Shell (Stand Alone Complex 1 and 2)- Not overly sixual, but the major does have some skimpy clothing. The story is quite good, but maybe a bit complex
4. One Piece - If they offer this on Netflix I would definitely check it out cause it is really great. You'll have atleast 150+ episodes to plow through before you reach the dub cap. You can also check out another site *PM me* to watch the subb episodes beyond the dub.
5. Bleach - Another good anime that is going strong at the moment.
6. DBZ/DBZ Kai - I would check out Kai if you want a shorter version, but regular DBZ if you want the longer version. Just make sure to get the uncut version since the cut version is just sad.

Mature/R rated Animes

If your dad lets you watch these then here's some that I might recommend.

1. Hellsing TV series and OVA - The OVA is WAY more graphic than the TV series and the F bomb is dropped heavily. However it is very good to watch and the OVA is very beautiful on par with Ghost In The Shell movie.
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion - I put this in the R rated section because of what happens down the road and how it gets pretty weird.
3. Princess Mononoke - Beautiful Miyazaki film and is pretty brutal. Was astonished that CN showed it uncensored and I saw a guy's arm being torn off by an arrow.
4. Hand Maid May - This is risque because it doesn't show anything as far as nudity goes, but it does involve harem with some weird scenes.
5. Mahoromatic - This show does have nudity in it and gets into some sixual jokes, but isn't down right raunchy. There are 2 seasons and is probably a chick series more than a guy series however it is still an interesting watch.
6. Sekirei - This is HIGHLY ecchi/perverted, but is funny as heck to watch. You might not get to watch this one if it's not ok to watch anything overtly sixual.

Last Minute Additions:

1. Tenchi Muyo - Really liked this one more than the other two series along with Tenchi Muyo GXP. Sadly the third installment Saint Knights Tale isn't released yet and I doubt Netflix would have it for release in sub version.
2. Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple - Good series with 51 episodes and has a good amount of comedy in it with a decent plot line.
3. Full Metal Alchemist and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - Very good with either series though the FMAB follows the manga more closely which just finished up not too long ago.
4. Soul Eater - Funny as heck and done by the same person that wrote FMA.
5. Negima and Negima?! - First one follows the manga more closely and the 2nd one is more along the lines of the magical girl series.

That's about it for now i'll try to think up some others if I can.

well im 16 so its not like i havent been exposed to anything sixual in media, and its not that he cares, its just kind of akward.
i have really wanted to see Helsing, but its not on netflix

Nudity is just fines as long is its not just down right Raunchy to the point of being awkward to watch with your father.

Gurren Lagann! All of the Episodes are on Netflix Instant. Accept one. They did an oopsie on one of them. After you watch episode 7 (if you do watch the series), go to youtube and look up Gurren Lagann episode 8. It shows up as later buddy. Then after you are done watching that, go back to the netflix, and watch what they say is episode 8, and you will be on track.

It is only 27 episodes long, and it is really interesting. I don't watch a lot of anime, and I was surprised that it kept my interest. All the episodes are under Gurren lagann volume 1 in netflix. Don't pay attention to the other two.

Back when I had Netflix I watched a few episodes of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Exile, which seemed decent. Seems they severely limit how much browsing you can do as a non-member (counterproductive as far as bringing in new members, no?), so I don't know what else they have anymore.

If they have any of these:

YuYu Hakusho
FLCL
Akira
SDF Macross
Macross Plus
Patlabor
Samurai Champloo
Outlaw Star
Blue Submarine No. 6

Also very good movie. Only anime movie besides ones from dragon ball z that I enjoyed, and watched through the whole way. It is VERY long.

Edit again- Dangit... I double posted... I thought I was editing..

Were we watching the same anime? The perverted teacher, oppai missiles, tons of fanservice.... it's definitely not a chick series. :teehee:

Given what happens in ep 8, it almost seems like netflix trying to troll people. That's remained unfixed for many months now.

Seconding Trigun and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. For the latter you'll have to wait a while for the dubs to get finished, they've only got season 1 and 2 up on netflix.

Well I say chick series because at the end it becomes a bit sappy including the 2nd series Something More Beautiful. Though the Oppai missiles are definitely full of win especially when Minawa says it to Mahoro.

I checked out the Netflix site so just going by what they had on their streaming list:

FLCL (insanity in a good way; might be awkward with your dad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNQAJd8mRV0)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (great story, characters, animation - it has everything!)
Trigun

Their DVD collection is probably a lot bigger and I'd try to get:

Ghost in the Shell (might be a little too serious)
Bleach (seasons 1-3)
Code Geass (first season is incredible; season 2 is not as good but still not bad by any means)
Durarara!!
Darker than Black
Higurashi (lol murder has never been so fun)
Cowboy Bebop
Berserk
Samurai Champloo

For a really good time:
Kodomo no Jikan
Bocu no Pico
Golden Boy

Oh and you should of course go watch Gosick on Crunchyroll. Why? VICTORIAN RORI. Hell, hook a computer up to your TV and just watch all the freebies on CR.

I saw Gunslinger Girl for instant watching on there if you don't mind little girls assassinating people. I also saw Hellsing Ultimate as well, both of which I recommend. Both are pretty violent.

I also watched a little bit of fullmetal alchemist, i couldn't really get passed the other main character's kid voice, but the stories kinda cool. Cowboy bebop isn't on there but its one of my favorite animes love the blues vibe its got, also samuri clampoo (spelling?) is also pretty cool mixing rap and samurai
