E3 announcements Xbox Backwards compatibility

Post » Thu Jun 18, 2015 2:44 am

So I'm sure all you fine guys and gals have been keeping up on E3 announcements. And I'm sure you all caught the news that the One will soon be able to play 360 games. My question is....

Will Skyrim be added to that list of games, is it already scheduled to be amongst that list, just exactly how sweet will it be to finally play Skyrim on the One?

Disscuss, debate, theorize :D

If this topic has been mentioned already and locked and or moved. Please except my sincerest apologies.

Thing is how well the games will play on the X1 since they will be emulated. It might actually play worse.

You have a point BUT I really don't think MicroSoft would announce it if it didn't work. The main issue I see is legal issues, like they said.

I think if anything it would run better, the One has the power to run Skyrim much better then the 360 does.

The backwards compatible PS3 models made some post-processing to PS2 games that made them look better. MS could do the same, but if it is emulation, the console may not be powerful enough to handle both, the emulation + post-processing.

I don't know all the in's and outs on the new emulator that's coming. I have no idea how MS handled it, BUT from how smoth it seems to run ( they showed Boarder Lands running ) I think it's a pretty solid feature. I didn't notcie any lag or any slow downs as the guy from MS was playing Boader Lands even when he used the screen shot function the game didn't see to slow down at all. Granted I don't think Boarder Lands has the amount of content that Skyrim has.

My only concern is how well the emulator and the One handles all the well known game breaking bugs, such as save file bloat. Only time will tell. Me personally I'm stoked and have high hopes for the emulator, I'm really hoping that it works out and that SKyrim is added to that list and perhaps, if we're lucky runs better then it did on the 360.

It seems very likely that Skyrim will make it onto the list.

Probably all the big AAA titles will, and then followed by "fan favourites" that aren't as big. I expect that over a few years they will add hundreds of titles.

Sorry, my bad. Wasn't intending to mislead anyone  But the backwards compatability news is great!! :D

You no likey clowns??? ( I'm only teasing, I don't like clowns too much either...)

That's my train of thought as well. All the big AAA titles first and then they move down the list from there. I'm really excited to play Skyrim on the One, I'm really hoping it runs a little better then it does on the 360 :D

Hmmmm, best to hold fire I think. I can buy two 360 s for the cost of a One and that guarantees me Skyrim play for years to come.

I think I read that it'll require publisher enrollment. And it will require online service, I suspect you'll need a Live gold account. You won't be able to just throw you 360 discs in the One and play. There will be a download to be done or some such thing.

IGN has a note about it: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/15/e3-2015-xbox-one-backward-compatibility-update-enables-360-xbla

Electronically purchased games will show up in your library automatically. Discs will require a download. Developers and publishers need only approve what games are eligible. Microsoft apparently takes care of the rest. No word in the note about whether a paid account with Microsoft is required.

Microsoft has a note too: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/backward-compatibility/

Says it's available at no additional cost, but I don't know if that assumes you already have a paid Live account? (My bad, further down on the Microsoft page it indicates a Gold account is not required!)

Looks like it's up to Bethesda on this one.

I seriously doubt that Bethesda is going to go back and make any changes to the game at this point, so it will be a matter of the consoles running the game as it is, bugs and all. Maybe Microsoft can find a way of implementing the PC high resolution patch.
