[WIP] Announcing @TES4ModUpdate

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:29 pm

I'm sure they have quite a few tools at their disposal, but I also know moderating all this is an almost impossible job as it is. They're not paid for it, you know, they're only volunteers. The boards you are familiar with, I wager, are not as well moderated, not as large, have paid moderators, or some combination of the above.

Man, please understand that I am not trying to argue with you. But on behalf of all the people out there that give countless hours to moderate the many all-volunteer forums out there, I gotta say that simply is not true. In fact, this is the first all-volunteer forum I have participated in that imposed thread limits. And you know, many of the forums I am referring to are not owned and backed by a multi-million dollar software corporation... I'm just saying...

It's for the moderators' sakes. Things around here are hard enough to handle as they are; could you imagine trying to sift through a 5,000 post thread?

They've mentioned why before, usually because threads allowed to wander for too long end up drifting all over the map. It's also just as much a means of keeping the database from having a heart attack. I can certainly sympathize when I have my blog and a couple of forums I run that have DBs into the 100MB range with small amounts of traffic. I can only imagine the size requirements of something as popular as this place or Nexus.

Greetings!

After a very busy Friday, I have finally had a chance to catch up on some things! :user:

First and foremost, the following mods are now on my list:
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19628
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28977
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4387
  • Unique Landscapes + Patches**
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18715
  • Under the Sign of the Dragon***
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8273
  • http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15777

* Assumed "Weather - All Natural"... correct?
** There are so many. I'm tracking most all of them now, but if there are any specific ones you meant let me know.
*** There are a few of these as well. Let me know if you meant any in particular.

I've got too much going on all of a sudden, but I have more of my own personal favorites to add to the list as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime I'll get caught up on these new additions.

Thanks again!

It's been a busy evening here for our fledgling @TES4ModUpdate. Added some mods to follow, re-organized, and had some general discussions about lots of things... some of them included @TES4ModUpdate!

But, this is actually an informative post...
A decision has been made to implement a policy change: @TES4ModUpdate will now include links to the updates whenever possible! If a link will not fit in the initial tweet, another tweet will follow immediately with a link and a reference back to the first tweet.

mcc84, your voice was heard, and enough of the @TES4ModUpdate team agreed! (that is to say, the boss agreed.... that is to say, the Mrs... ha ha!)

Thanks, and enjoy!

No, thank you! I was reminded that you had a valid point... and that I tend to be unreasonably stubborn at times! (the boss is good at pointing things like that out... you know, "constructive criticism")

Thanks again, man! :foodndrink:

Hi veg!

great idea imo, although i personally prefer this site for anything oblivion, since i really hate facebook, myspace, twitter etc, boring and a waste of time to go on those sites.

but keep it up, no doubt lots of people are silently thanking you for this :D

I have to thank you for a page that brings updates through RSS. Long ago, I used the RSS feeds that the Nexus has for seeing all the updates conveniently. They're still there but are technically malformed or something and do not work with any RSS reader I try now... Its months now and the feeds there are still broken. Good thing twitter has RSS.

My pleasure. So far this has gotten off to a really good start. Slowly but surely I think people will catch on!

And of course, let us know if there any mods in particular you would like to receive updates for. They'll be added to the list as quickly as possible!

Thank you! :)

Actually that isn't entirely true. Most modders seldom play the game, the CS is far more fun than the game. The productive live part is probably very true! :P

I'm not ashamed of self-promotion...would you be interested in adding the mod I've been developing (but is still in beta) to the feed?

Lol! You mean starting the game, have a quick runthrough to test out if something works and hit the exit button? I do admit that I have at least ten characters and most of them are named "Test Guy".:D

Seems your monitoring method needs a bit of tweaking - Feldscar only got an updated readme, nothing else was actually done with it. Maybe it should be restricted to file updates? I doubt people care much if readmes or images get updated.

Yes, the brighter half of the team pointed that out to the dumber half just this evening... should be a bit more accurate in the future!

Well, it was fun for a while, but all good things must come to an end, right?

Thanks to those that gave their support; it was and is appreciated. The fact is that trying to get modded Oblivion to work is just too much trouble, as far as we are concerned. Leisure time is more of a luxury now than ever, and we're tired of spending it fighting with the computer. So, we have decided that we're done trying to make things work... no more modded Oblivion, thank you very much. Naturally, tracking and reporting on mods for a game we no longer play is not really something either of us are interested in, so unfortunately @TES4ModUpdate is going to fade away as well. If anyone really wants to see it keep going and is willing to take it over themselves, we'll be happy to turn the account over. Otherwise, I guess you can stop following this one.

It was fun while it lasted. Have a blast,
veg & co.
