Announcing the Skyrim Fan Interview

Post » Thu Mar 11, 2010 11:34 pm

Recreated a new character in Oblivion, only to remember how lacking Oblivion's facial hair was. Will there be better facial hair in Skyrim? It is the land of the nords, so I have high expectations.

Will the game have cloth physics?

And will the player be able to see his feet/body by looking down in first person view?

I have 4 questions

1. Do the races still have their racial spell abilities like Adrenaline Rush, Berserk, Dragonskin, Voice Of The Emperor, etc and if they are in do they have new effects.

2. With Designing Alduin is he going to look different then the other dragons like will he be bigger, have red and black skin, special abilities exclusive to him, etc.

3. Bretons, were they changed appearance wise from how they looked in Oblivion and if they were changed could you go into specifics on the appearance changes.

4. With Esbern I was wondering if you could tell us a bit more about his background story and possibly what type of armor he's wearing or the color of it.

Will thier be more content then oblivion? (not just ruins, enemies but like things to do like gambling ect.)

PLEASE do not put gambling into the game. If i want to play blackjack or anything like that, there's a million places i can do so at anytime, i do not want to be forced to do anything like that to get through the game.

My question;

What do you think the proper balance is between : 1) making quests have multiple outcomes, such as in the two fallout 3s, and total quest content, i.e., if there is one way to complete each quest, that leaves more programming space for more quests, while if there are 2 or more outcomes to each quest, then there are more interesting options to complete the quest, but less space for additional quests to be programmed.

Also,
  • How will encumbrance, magicka regen-rate, luck, etc. be handled since there are no more traditional attributes?
  • How will speechcraft work?

I'm definitely going to second this, ESPECIALLY the question about derived attributes (magicka regen, encumbrance, etc).
  • In addition, how is enchanting going to work? Will it be like classical enchanting where you pick an effect, set the magnitude, and set the casting type? Are we getting cast-on-use back for all items?

  • Do spells have magnitudes and other numbers like they used to, or do they get more powerful with each increase in skill level and simply level with you?

How is progress on the werecreatures/vampires, Are they looking likely or unlikely?
Can we sell stolen items to merchants? (will merchants know if goods are stolen? y'now because some are psychic)
Will headshots with arrows be fatal?
Daggers seem to kill instantly (atleast in the trailer), if this is so will increasing my sneak skill or blade skill to a high level be worthwhile?
How will we be punished for crime?
Will there be Dremora?
Will each race have advantages? (Orcs being stronger, Argonians being good assassins)
Will there be Birthsigns?
Will different body types have different advantages?
Will there still be chance in harvesting? (just the how the hell do i fail a harvest anyway?)
Will parts of clothes move realistically? (e.g. a cape blowing in the wind)

If any of these questions have been asked/answered already forgive me i havent read thorugh all the posts, or read all the info already released.

I would really like to know if lycanthropy is in and what are the restrictions.
If that question is not ready I would like to know what we'll be seeing at E3

Are the weapon and armor materials going to be the same linear fashion as in oblivion, or are there going to be advantages and disadvantages to different materials.

Hey guys, thank you for taking time to read and answer these questions.

Question about the quest update system: is it like Oblivion (a window that pops up and stops the game everytime you find a new clue) or is it like Morrowind (a short message that announces you that the quest has been updated without stopping the game)?

Question about lockpicking: is lockpicking in real time or does it stop the game?

Question about crowds: are there any ceremonials, processions, celebrations, public speeches, riots, etc that imply many npcs gathered together? How many npcs can we see on the screen at once, at most? (approximate number is welcomed ;))

Questions about spiders: are they found only in caves? A journalist described the hands off demo animation spider encounter like this: the spider dropped from the ceiling for a surprise attack. Is this a boss-only scripted event, or is it something that may happen anytime because it's part of every spider's AI? Can spiders use the walls and ceilings to flee from fights? Can we burn the spiders webs?

What were your goals when designing the 10 races appearance for skyrim?
Will you release an mp3 of the Skyrim theme?
Has enemy AI been improved greatly?

First off, it's great to see Bethesda holding a fan interview session. It's always encouraging to see developers holding such interactions with their fans. Here are my queries:

1. How dynamic are dragon fights?

2. How do perks work in the game? Do they serve as a substitute for attributes or are they more along the lines of Fallout?

3. How are quest directions handled this time around? Will the quest markers from Oblivion make a return or has the system been re-vamped?

4. Do cities load in different cells?

5. Will alchemy be handled differently from the previous iterations of TES?

6. Will there be more pronounced racial disparities i.e. Dunmers will have lower disposition towards Argonians and consequently, will be treated as unwelcome visitors to their refuge?

7. Will the general lighting affect the stealth mechanics i.e. hiding in shadows would enshroud the player character?

8. Will we get a fishy-stick before commencing our adventure?

Concluding, kudos to the Bethesda Team for there consistent efforts and for delivering the some of the best role playing experiences with their games.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Great Bethesda
If (I won't take "We might not add mounts" as an answer so therfor IF) you manage to include mounts will we have more than just horses? Like goats? or Mammoths? Or cliffracers?
Will cliffracers return? (Please say yes)
Will Helseth Hlaalu return in Skyrim?
What is "Spears in the traditional spear sense? Will there be other polearms instead? If so which?

Damn, forgot one: Will male dunmer use Morrowinds voice actor?

Will the PC version support the 360 controller?

This is the key factor in choice of platform, so it is fairly important that this is clarified.

Thanks.

Can you give me one concrete example of AI capability that allows an NPC to use the objects nearby or the environment during combat?

Are stolen items labeled so as in Oblivion, or we can sell to anyone?

In oblivion the only ways to neutralize enemy spells were passive abilities such as absortion and spell reflection. Will the system be more involving this time? For example, by basing its chances of success on the player's skill to "press a button at the right moment".

Another way to ask the same question: Will timed blocking work against incoming spells? (provided that we have the required perks/magic ability)

Can you explain in more detail how the character creator works?
Or could you release a video of someone using the character creator?
That would be awesome of you.

1st off let me say OMG its Todd ! lol (that out of the way) I am a big fan of Orcs and am wondering with the racism between the Elvish and the Nords will you also have racism in any other forms ? if so can we expect to see/join with Orcish clans, I only ask because if I remember rightly, the Orcs did not take to ashlanders too keenly in Morrowind, and there did seem to be some clans or wargroups of Orcs in the Morrowind wilds,... If so great, if not pls incorporate something like this in the future,(DLC) like a return to Orsinium so they have their own country again,... that would be the coolest,... and I love the way things look so far ,.. great job,.... your most annoying admirer lol

Could you please explain, in great detail, the level system. Walk us through a level up, what are the restrictions, can you save perks, after level 50 do you still pick perks?

What is the rough number of different voice actors, and how many unique voices does each actor have for different npc?

How is carry weight determined? How do we increase it?

Is there one set running/sprinting speed? Can we increase it? If so how?

Leveled loot lists?

I know you've discussed fast travel and how you're incorporating a carriage much like the silt strider of Morrowind. but, I have to ask a question: Is fast travel really necessary? The Carriage is a good idea for major and minor towns but I feel like it takes away from the adventure of the game. I remember in Morrowind when I'd be injured and poisoned struggling to make it to a nearby town and just getting a potion before dying. It kept me on the edge of my seat and made me feel like "hot damn that was intense.!" Plus, a lot of dungeons go undiscovered when you fast travel everywhere. You miss out on the beauty in the game that you've worked years on only for people to fast travel to the end of the main quest. It takes away the feel and beauty of what is soon to be the greatest adventure game since Daggerfall. I'm just letting you know what I as a fan is thinking.

Captain Manpo

P.S. Will there be Dogs or other companions one can buy or earn? I think an attack bear would be sweet.
