Announcing the Skyrim Fan Interview # 4

Post » Sat Aug 28, 2010 10:22 am

[censored] it, look... there will NEVER be multiplayer in the elder scrolls, they have said it themselves on countless occasions that its just not something they feel would work well in these games, even the rumors for an online TES were shot down for good finally, according to the UESP wiki.

if you want an online RPG, go play world of warcraft.

sorry if i sounded a bit aggressive, but... god, i am so sick of seeing this question EVERYWHERE!

does bethesda need to send todd himself to your house to smack you with a fishstick, and glue a sign to your face saying "we arent making an online elder scrolls game, ever."?

personally, im glad it'll never be online, it would DESTROY the entire series, if you ask me.

zerojinkui, I think your sarcasm meter is out of batteries. recharge it and then try reading the bishop's post again.

  • How will encumbrance, magicka regen-rate, luck, etc. be handled since there are no more traditional attributes?

Ok so in the Official Game Play Trailer when the guy is fighting a wolf in the woods with a bow, it appears that the wolf is running in slo-mo, or kind of floaty/slidey.

Has this been fixed? I hope so!

Questions:

1) Will we hear anymore of the fate of the Nerevarine or any important figures from Morrowind? From Oblivion?

2) Will we see anything of Solsthiem, perhaps from the northern coast?

3) To what extent, compared to Daggerfall and Oblivion will randomized landscapes be used by the world designers?

4) Have you already thrown around ideas for expansions for Skyrim? With the increase in graphical technology and thus complexity and added production time on a set amount of land will we see a move away from land expansions or can we expect smaller expansions?

5) What are some of the challenges unique to Skyrim's development, besides the often talked about dragons? What are some of the things that are easier to do now that would have been impossible or much harder during the development of Oblivion or Fallout 3?

Apparently, there are no random landscapes in Skyrim; everything is handcrafted.

Will skyrim run better on xbox, rather than ps3, because that the console its being developed for? I know most multi platforms usually run better on xbox. Will you spend any extra time porting it to the ps3?

Questions close at the end of the week, which means it could be the 20th-22nd. After they select the questions and answer them i'd give it another week. June 1st really isn't out of the question. Regardless, it won't be until end of the month.

2. Will You be able to buy more then one house in a city? Like if you liked the Imperial City in Oblivion you had to live in a shack.

3. Has the grab system changed so it will be easier to decorate your house?

4. Will the Dark Brotherhood be returning?

5. Will their be houses available for purchase outside of cities?

Thanks

a few more from Morrowindforum.de:

Hymirvetr asks: Will the character creation feature the ability to choose the build of your character?I.E,can i choose to make a scrawny Nord or a buff Breton?

Warkiller asks for hit zones affecting damage

Hans was not satisfied with the feeling of the mouse/keyboard steering in Oblivion (for him it felt like a (too) quick&dirty replacement for the console steering) and asks if there are any changes made to the basic movement in Keyboard/mouse mode.

Thomas1196 asks for other animals to ride than just horses (e.g. Donkeys, Bears, Unicorns), and wants to know if (guild) quests will offer more choices with consequences than before. Additionally, he'd like an updated statement about the ESRB and FSK (German equivalent of ESRB) ratings to be expected.

Ryan wants to know if there will be cities as unfinished as Oblivion's Bravil - Considering what Ryan has done with Bravil, i'd dare to hope for such "unfinished" cities ;). A second question by Ryan is, if the designers will focus more on more armor, weapons and creatures instead of plates, bowles and other clutter. He also asked for a statement if you'd move on to a more linear system of quests, or more in the direction of a "second life".

That's all for now, let's see if Morrowindforum.de produces some more questions soon.

Will guild membership, guild quests/assignments, guild rank climbing and such things be separated again, like in Morrowind, or will we continue to be able to be the master of all trades, including sorcery, thieving and assassination, *at the same time*?

Vampirism and werewolves. Included? Quests? Factions?

Dialogue and Roleplaying

The dialogue system in Oblivion made roleplaying difficult. Essentially, conversations boiled down to a 'shopping list' of 'topics' to choose from, with little sense of immersion. Things improved in Fallout 3, when 'topics' were expanded into dialogue options, but even these operated in roughly the same fashion. Other RPG developers (I'm not naming names here), put much greater emphasis on the dialogue aspect of games, with a large opportunity for choices, consequences, moral decisions and branching story-lines.

Will Skyrim make any forward strides in this area? If not, can you assure gamers that this sort of dynamism is being explored for future RPGs from Bethesda Softworks?

1. Will the races play differently from each other? For example in the elder scrolls novel it stated that Khajiits walk cat like or that the Argonians can swim really fast like a fish.

2. Will their be lanterns in the game or just torches and will the lanterns and/or torches be brighter then in the last game. Because in oblivion alot of the caverns was dark and a torch didn't cut it.

3.will Sheogorath(the deadra prince not the mortal) return?

4.will Jyggalag have his own shrine and realm?

5. Will skyrim have all the Deadra shrines and will the appearance be like in the first elder scrolls?

6. Will the in game days have special in game meaning ie, holidays and summoning days like in daggerfall?

7. Will we be able to use and navigate a ship?

8. Will their be a pet and or taming system?

9. Will the fame and infamy system be upgraded?

10. will their be different styles to fight with weapons IE marital arts for hand to hand combat?

11. will you be able to kick in skyrim?

12. will Diseases have an effect on how you physically look or move?

13. Will we be able to spread diseases?

14. Will you be able to delete spells from your spells list?

15. Will their be a lot of different voice actors this time?

16. Will their be various weapons IE Wands and lances?

Actually, I felt like this system helped with immersion. Instead of giving me a list of what I can say, I could imagine saying how I would say it, and not the devs.

The fact that conversations are now done in real-time (instead of the static close-up from Oblivion and Fallout 3) should greatly improve immersion in Skyrim, regardless of how the dialogue system works.
