Announcing the Skyrim Fan Interview # 4

Post » Sat Aug 28, 2010 12:21 am

How will the music system work this time around? Oblivion took a step towards Daggerfall, having own scores for dungeons. Will Skyrim work the same way, or is it improved again, like tavern music (The bard in the trailer), crossfading etc.?

I hope there's more lively music in taverns and such.

About the sword fighting:
Todd said we could choose the direction of the swing using "control stick". What about PC?

And to make things clear, is direction of the swing like Dark Messiah or Mount&Blade where you can actually choose between 4 angles or 4 different moves à la Oblivion?

Just to reiterate, as I am sure some have asked before, in hope that this question is seen. How will the armour and clothing slots work? Will pauldrons be separate? Can you wear clothing beneath or above armor( robes, cloaks, jackets, coats, ect . . .)

Now most of the attributes are out. How will strength, speed, willpower, luck be handled?

Will there be ways to increase jumping ability. Return of the jump spell? As well as climbing or any similar method of scaling a wall (ladders XD, levitation, ect . . .) So my character can go parkouring around the cities. If so can my character climb through windows? Only a novice thief or an assassin would enter through the doorway if there were other options.

A more technical programming question, although, I am not a modder and have only a little experience in the construction kit. I have spent a great deal of time in the modding forums and noticed some topics that modders have issue modding. I noticed that somethings like adding animations without replacing others, adding new skills, swapping models, changing skeletons, ect . . . is considered either impossible, only possible using buggy and difficult workarounds, or had to wait for the script extender. Although, I doubt everything can be solved ,but will we see improvements in this field?

Will we be able to see our own feet in first-person view?

I know that there is the carriage system, will there be other options as well (boats, airship, mark and recall, divine intervention, mage teleportation services, ect . . .)? For those who may want a more roleplaying and realistic approach to fast travel.

Last one, will Divayth Fyr with his clone wives and Yagrum Bargarn return? How about Master Aryon?

About the story - is it linear?
Can you join every guild?
Choices and consequences?
Multiple endings?

Thanks

Just one question: are there or are there not finishing moves in combat?

Finishing moves have already been confirmed.

You guys seem to be tailoring the game around consoles more than PCs, will Skyrim have any advantages (better shader effect, longer draw distance, etc.) over consoles apart from Creation Kit, and higher resolutions, since the newest Direct X is not supported due to console limitations.

Are there perks that cover more than one skill?

( You need a couple of skills be at a certain level to get them, and/or affect more than one skill. )

Will the game come in two discs? Or maybe three?

One Blu Ray disc for PS3. Pete said "should be" one disc for 360.

Just to let you guys know... you have about a week left to submit your questions. I'll be delivering questions around the end of next week.

Just curious.. when the questions are all said and done is the interview going to be stickied at the top of the forum for us to easily find it?

What I really want to know is simple. I want to know about the economy.

Will there be travelling traders, which I can waylay (And loot) and possibly be hunted down for? If I kill these traders, will the cities they visit be impacted?

Is it possible to become a trader myself? Will this have an impact on the world?

And finally; will areas become richer or poorer depending on variables such as recent weather (Affecting harvest)?

A few other questions - not pertaining to the economy:

Can I work as a freelance assassin - rather than join the Dark Brotherhood, or any alternative group?

Will large bands of Bandits exist? If so, will they, for example, raid nearby settlements in a similar way to dragons? Again, if yes, will I be contracted to fight them?

Will I be able to summon multiple creatures at the same time?

Again; finally: will I have the ability to work as a law-enforcer?

Will there by any chance that fully independent, or scripted sailing ships (as opposed to the models that are just aesthetic) be added to the game sometime in the future?

How do finishing moves work? will they auto execute at the end of a fight, or can you choose when to execute them? and will there be limb severing?

Also TES series has never been known for multiplay and that's fine, it lends itself well to the game. But could we possibly see an option for at most 1 or even 2 player co-op for dueling your friends or raiding dungeons?

- How will the storyline handle the Nerevarine and Champion? The Nerevarine could still likely be alive due to the Corprus. The same could hold true for the Champion if there was some sort of apotheosis sometime after the Madness Crisis (assuming you guys at Bethesda decide to take that route. Reminds me a little of the Warp of the West in terms of possible character choice)

- Conjuration: Will there be any perk trees for non Daedric, non Undead summons?

- Some effects like Reflect, Spell Absorb seem very static and can make the game too easy (or too hard fighting against it.) Are there any thoughts to changing the "fire and forget" nature of these spells? I think what was done with Block in regards to timing was an excellent move and is a possible change

- Knightly/Religious factions again please! I don't expect the Imperial Legion or even the Knights of the Nine, but something for us goodie two shoes is always appreciated!

Ok I have 12 yes/no questions :shocking: PLEASE READ Q 12 :shocking:

Regarding character animations , :toughninja:

1) Can we drink from rivers or lakes like in fallout ? - I think this small thing would add way more immersion
2) Can we set up campfires like in New Vegas ? - adding to immersion again
3) Will we be able to sit down on the ground
4) Will there be an animation for jumping rather than just being flung into the air ?
5) Will there be body language , like if someone is crying and begging you to save their kids will they be on their knees begging ? and on a related matter , will beggers beg rather than just strollin around askin for 1 measly coin every now and then
6) When we look down in 1st person will we see our body or do our characters still have floating head syndrome ? :teehee:
7) When you fall in first person , will you see your hand put out in front of you ?
8) When we walk up stairs slowly will we step on each one , going up properly rather than the invisible escalators ?

9) Will vendors stop charging 20675 coins for enchanted items ? In Oblivion if anything was enchanted , even if it was RUBBISH ! the vendor would charge at least 10k + :banghead: , this was ridiculous o.0 regardless of the fact it was no where near the actual value , they would never sell it at that price and they never did o.0

10) Very important , Are gaurds still omniscient and all share a hive mind ? For example , I waited till dark , went into a shop , no one saw , went into shopkeepers bedroom , killed him silently in one shot , leave bedroom ,
:batman: STOP !!! YOU VIOLATED THE LAW !!! :batman: This was the Number 1 thing that annoyed me and many others about oblivion , you could never get away with ANY crime and were ultimatley be forced to be a good character :yuck: . Is it going to change to a system of if no one saw or heard , it never happened

11) Will Barter skill be more interactive rather than a passive skill ? I found that skill to be awfully slow to level and you could only invest in a stor as an expert, I know it's mostly a passive skill but will there be more to do with it ? at lets say 25 barter skill you can invest in some small store or do out loans ? Something anyway , im just throwin ideas out there. Will barter skill be developed to be an actual skill rather than a near passive , hard to level skill thats only benifit until completley mastered is a tiny discount?

12) Another Important one , the whole personality attribute , everywhere I went in oblivion , people despised me , why ? because my personality attribute was low : / , doesnt make sense , and how can how can they know your personality from looking at you ? they don't even say i know what you did or anything , i did'nt do anything bad but they all hated me , next time cyrodil can save itself , Anyway , will it be replaced by fallout 3's karma system where if people hated you it was for good reason ( :gun: ), news of what you did is broadcasted everyday , not new vegas's karma system , that had no effect on anything whatsoever , fallout 3's system . Example , the companion in megaton wouldnt join you if you were too "good" , will this sytem be implemented instead of the personality attribute ? Just replace the word karma with infamy/status/ viewed as/ , to keep the association with fallout out of mind as the time settings are different and it would just feel weird to see "karma" in TES , so will a system like fallout 3's be implemented ?

You guys seem to be tailoring the game around consoles more than PCs, will Skyrim have any advantages (better shader effect, longer draw distance, etc.) over consoles apart from Creation Kit, and higher resolutions, since the newest Direct X is not supported due to console limitations.

I believe Todd mentioned in an interview somewhere that DirectX 11 will be used for PCs but for the performance increase only, at least at the time, don't know if that's changed.

Will large bands of Bandits exist? If so, will they, for example, raid nearby settlements in a similar way to dragons? Again, if yes, will I be contracted to fight them?

So similar to the Goblin Tribes of Oblivion? That was definitely fun, there should have been more of that in Oblivion, and so I'd love for it to be in Skyrim as well, but more so than what Oblivion had. There should be many factions at war seeing how this place is currently under a civil-war.

Now for my question(s)...

- Will Conjuration allow for multiple summons at once, instead of being limited to just 1 summon at a time, if not will it be simpler to mod in, as in no cheap work-arounds? I've always wanted to feel like an awesome necromancer who summons an army of skeletons.

This is a very important question for me, it's only one question and it will be the question that can change the game entirely for me...

Is it possible to become a Necromancer, since it was banned in Oblivion I was really sad about that. But that was in Cyrodill, will it be possible to become a Necromancer in Skyrim?

Please, please answer me. Necromancy is my most favorite class to play as, such an badass playstyle

Third, and final, alternate question if the last two are denied: Will there be Dragons?

Nah, just kiddin, but seriously, will Lycanthropy make a return from Daggerfall and Morrowind? And if so, will Hircine come with them?

I apologize if this has been asked before but I've never seen it answered if it has:
I've heard talk of dismemberment and brutal combat and such, which is great for people that want it. Some of us however, even if we are a minority, do not want to have to see that. Will there be options to turn off blood/gore for those of us that prefer combat not show explicit detail?

My question pertains to the... hmm, how to put this...

I guess it has to do with the... models given weapons and armor will use.
My question is, will every one of a given weapon or armor piece use the exact same model as in Oblivion and Morrowind?

For example, if I go to the local blacksmith and buy ten iron short-swords, will all ten of them look the same or might there be multiple different models or textures so there might be two or three different-looking ones?
I'm reminded of games such as Two Worlds 2, where for example the game's Leather Armor had many different-looking models even though they were all simply "leather armor".

So, will equipment items have only one mesh or model, or will some have multiple different appearances?
