Annoying ad

Post » Fri Jan 01, 2010 3:26 am

Ok this may be obscure, mild and petty for you, but its aggravating my mood greatly, because its gone on for for some time now.

I am watching live one of the tv channels here called "antena 3"(a major news channel), both on its live caster and the website there is an ad , basically this ad is the most common and persistent on that site.

Now my problem with this ad: it's about business (aka luxury) apartments with prices starting from 1290 euros(1 597 dollars) per square meter. (1 meter = 3.2 feet )

This ad is rolling on tv and various other sites, in conclusion, it addresses the average population, that is insane , in a country where the minimum wage is 200$ per month, the minimum pension is 100$ per month and with most of its population in poverty, with its 2.5 million "elite" in extreme poverty.

Why are they doing this? You would think this is a niche in a country like this, you would think this addresses the people interested in this sort of thing, the rich elite here, so why do i see it on television?

Its like advertising a big company on tv, why would you do that? The people with the money to buy a big company, are already in the "game" and have they're means of accessing this info. (exclusive magazines, parties ,meetings, clubs etc.)
People interested in buying a rocketship are a niche and have they're own special market , why would you advertise a 3.2 billion dollars space [censored] to the average citizen?

I find this ad insulting, whats your opinion on this?

Pics or it didn't happen.

Jk, but I'd like to see this ad please. :) No need to be insulted, it's probably fake and certainly better than the "Find out ONE simple trick a single mum learned to losing weight!"

Where else would they advertise it? Its just playing to human desire to better themselves in life.

And Romania has its haves as well as its have nots, and surprise the ads are aimed at those who have the money. Its not the adverts you should be angry at, it's the distribution of wealth. Bit of a huge gap there. But many countries have similar. I am being priced out of the Hong Kong property market and I earn the average middle class salary(equivalent to a bank manager). Rich mainlanders are buying everything.

Maybe they assume the lower classes wouldn't be able to afford a computer? Maybe?

I see little point in posting an advert advertising property. Whilst to the average person where you are it is expensive.there are no doubt those who can afford to buy an apartment at those prices, no different to Estate Agents here in Spain advertising houses on the sea front for 2 or 3 million Euros - the average citizan can't afford it but they don't get upset seeing the advert.

Perhaps it is nice to dream?

Lets take a theoretical example.

Only 2 people in the country can afford the rocket, why waste money on advertising it to the whole population?

They can advertise that to those 2 people at exclusive clubs, parties or meetings.

But they make more money from them than the rest of you put together. May I suggest you have the wrong target.

Wrong target? You mean the distribution of wealth here? I am very angry about that yes, but i won't go into politics.

They do it purely to annoy you Romascu, the look of pain, anger and frustration on your face inspires them to keep the commercial going.

Ads are what the mute button and Ad-Block Plus were invented for ;)

I find many ads insulting, most of the time to my intelligence (such as the one with a color blidness test posing as an IQ test i've seen on the Nexus sites), i just do the "Implied facepalm" look and turn my attention elsewhere :D

So don't get angry about the sores when the plague will kill you. Or become an estate agent. Estate agents are loved about as much as plague carriers I find.

I've been annoyed by similar ads but they're not quite as extreme. There's this one that really bugs me. I don't remember what exactly the company name is but they basically find 6 figure jobs for people with masters degrees or doctorates or some such. Which is a big [censored] you to all the other 95 percent of people watching. (Don't know exact statistics, sue me)

I could rant all day long on all of the commercials that piss me off. Structured settlements, 40,000 dollar cars, help for people who owe 100,000 dollars in back taxes...I swear, sometimes it makes me ashamed to be an American.

$1600 a square meter would be considered such a bargain in southern California that people would think it was a misprint. condeminiums in a desirable location here go for $5800 a square meter or so.

And Hong Kong prices are mind-boggling compared to L.A. 50,000 to 100,000 yuan/square meter (US $7325 to $14,650) seems to be the going rate for the mainlanders yiasemi describes.

It sounds like these advertisemants are directed to the (relatively small number of) Romanians who have good employment, are upwardly mobile, and have some income to spend on desirable accommodations. As yiasemi says, it's the distribution of wealth, not the advertisemants themselves, that is offensive.

I thought an english teacher in China would be well payed, mainly because (im not sure about this but) the education there not that great, atleast thats the idea I get when kids have to work in factories and that, or is that a steryotpe/incorrct info, so im sure a teacher would be a good thing they want to encourage.

I earn as much as a bank manager. But China is huge, and has an enormous number of business owners doing very very well thank you, and if even a tiny fraction of them want to live in Hong Kong, my public salary is screwed. I can get a nice little house in the villages so don't cry for me. But I can't choose where to live.

And another thing! I'm getting sick and tired of all these teenagers that absolutely have to have that brand new shiny piece of electronic crap that gets churned out every year. If I hear one more thing about the iPhone... Well let's just say you better start investing in Jitter Bugs.

Edit: And another thing!! What's with this alcohol that has friggin' gold flakes in it? Here's an idea, put uranium in it and drink it. Stupid rich pricks.

That stuff is weird. Its like, are they trying to get us to beat them up?

I suppose we shall always be plagued by adverts that we don't like, at least until they work out a better system of consumer targeting. That's why I am plagued with Twilight ads in the breaks in True Blood, offers of something called a "green card" on Cracked.com, and endless evony ads on UESP.

Well if memory serves, Its an inert metal, so no chemical changes in the body. Of course, the downside is, that those rich folk will literally be so rich that they crap gold.

It's very thin gold flakes. It's supposed to cut your throat up, just so that it's more painful :P. But really, it's just decoration. You would much much sooner die of alcohol poisoning before the gold can affect someone.
