..Another Beta release?

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 11:17 pm

Is this it now? Is this how it's going to be in gaming? Developers releasing titles in Beta state that only become truly acceptable after two years passage of time and the attention of the modding community (Nexus in particular).I'm speaking of Skyrim and Rome 2 in particular as they've been my two major time sinks...However,the more I play Fallout 4 the more i'm inclined to put it in the company of these two other titles.

While FO4,one could argue, has had a better start than some of the Betas it is to me really F03.5..with settlements..that don't work..

I mean if you're going to highlight the settlements in the marketing,as one would,at least make sure they work.

Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of all the above, just tired of having the shine taken off my experiences...I know economics is a factor but please

patch before dlc on this occasion..SETTLEMENTS.

Cheers.

Yes pengun, one does...Devs releasing incomplete titles and leaving them to the largely amateur modding communities to finish. ;)

You are new to this, I'd guess. I'm not diviner, PenGun is me.

The Fallout 3D games have an engine that allows mods. This is quite rare and we have taken advantage of it over the years. To say that the games are only finished by modders is to miss the point, almost entirely.

I have every settlement developed, and I am really enjoying them. Every one has a multi-floor defense structure.

I very much appreciate Fallout 4 as being almost bug free; by far the best release Bethesda has done.

Worst glitch I have seen so far - there is one door in a diner that does not open, but you can just walk through it.

That I can live with, although I am sure it will get patched eventually.

Jd10013,no just upgraded..If by working fine you mean that your settlements work..i.e. report stats etc correctly..then I doubt it as the mechanic is incomplee in this part of the game.Cheers.

Actually you are arguing against yourself in a way. If a game is released then its not considered beta, because it was released. Beta is a stage of development that leads up to a release. And no that is not nitpicking, its fact.

No, as soon as it is released its not considered a BETA. You can however make the claim that it never should have passed beta and still be in development. I guess that is what you are doing, but atleast use the word in the right way. If that makes me picky, fine.

they work well enough. But I don't get all into them. To me they're 10% of the game. At most. If I were looking for a building simulation game I wouldn't fire up FO4. But that's just me

A lot of bugs don't show up until the game is released to the public since a video game company can't test every single combination of hardware and software conflict that might arise. Then you have player feedback which is also not possible until the game is released. However, the most important thing is that video game companies are a business and need to release the game in a reasonable period of time to get back their investment. If Fallout 4 was in development until 2025, then even though the game would be better with almost no bugs, it still wouldn't be a commercial success like it was. Fallout 4 is in no way in Beta since all games are like this. After all, what company would not release a game when only one portion of the game is flawed according to a few people? After all, there is absolutely no way to please everyone.

I understand Beth game are huge, but so are others, and I never had any issues with other games having soooo many scripting bugs.

Beth has just made releasing mostly finished games the norm for them. I know that FO4 is less broken than previous titles, but I just have to sigh when I run into yet another script bug.

Ummm...you do realize there are lots of mods (and modders) out there who's works meets or even exceeds Bethesda's own work, don't you? You do also realize that there have been a few modders whose work while modding Bethesda's games, have moved on into actual development of video games, don't you? You do realize, that just because they are modding Bethesda's games (for little to no money, while oftentimes spending their own) doesn't make their work somehow less worthwhile than Bethesda's own work.

Don't trivialize the hard work that the good modders of this community put into making our games just that much better than they already are, it isn't needed, nor appreciated.

Prankstar, can't comment on sonic games, just wish Bethesda picked up more errors before releasing..or were more honest and said,"yeah,we're releasing but it ain't ready or finished!"
