Another Fallout game by Obsidian

Post » Thu Mar 10, 2011 12:24 pm

Yeah I know it's kinda early to start topic like this, because New Vegas was just released.
But I'm having blast with the game, love every little detail and for me it will probably be a true classic.
Is there any chance that we will see another game set in Fallout's world and made by Obsidian?
(And where it would be set? Personally I would love Chicago or Denver)

discuss!

Don't go expecting them to make another game until after Fallout 4 is released, which is a couple of years away. That is, assuming Obsidian is even hired to make another game.

an other super bugged fallout game done by a group of modders without ability of bugfixing it?

No thanks.

Please Bethesda you are able to do bugged games without the help of other teams. But at least you are able to fix them, after fix 1.7 I was able FINALLY to finish fallout 3.

Now I have fallout new vegas since 2 days before the release date (thanks to an early delivery of my colelctor edition) and I'm blocked at 13 hours of game since the 22 october for the saved games corruption bug .... no ways to workaround it!

no more obsidian fallout games thanks!

I personally think they should put Obsidian on a lot more Fallout projects. I've thought about it, and all through the game I've never experienced bugs to a game-breaking extent (Not saying that others haven't), and I've found everything interesting - The characters, the places and even the menus and weapons. So yes, to me it would definitely be a step in the right direction and definitely not a kick in the head. That said, I'm going to have to go with antibody on this one and say that it'll probably be awhile, and I hope it will so we get some Elder scrolls love from Bethesda.

Ideas? Maybe a revised version of Van Buren and its world would be good, it would be interesting to see the original Fallout 3 come to life and explore another one of the NCRs expanding fronts.

I would rather see something new from Obsidian than another adopted sequel. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed their sequel track record so far, and I would even go so far as to say that I enjoyed Kotor 2 more than the original, and NWN 2 at least as much as the first. And while I don't think Alpha Protocol can stand up to any of those games as an RPG, it did something new. I'd rather see something truly new and original than a shinier version of something I've already seen.

That being said, I have been svcked into New Vegas in a way Fallout 3 never quite managed. They each had their strong points. Fallout 3 had a story that got me pumped up to kick ass and take names. New Vegas has me wandering from town to town because I couldn't give two [censored] about fancy-pants Benny, but this time I actually care about the people I meet along the way. The game itself just has more personality. It is unique, and I would rather see that applied to a new franchise than to another Fallout game.

I would rather Obsidian take over the series from Bethesda entirely, as the Fallout series is better in the hands of the original creators, but they are world-renowned for releasing games in unplayable states. That's not to say that New Vegas is UNPLAYABLE, but I've had to go into the GECK/console several times to fix something or reset a quest which is not possible on the console versions and breaks some of the enjoyment. However, if Obsidian takes over the franchise entirely (obviously using Bethesda as the publisher), they may be able to shake the GameBryo engine once and for all and use some sort of streaming middleware with a modified UE3 which would in all likelihood create a better play environment. GameBryo has an ease-of-development that is hard to match, but the animation, navmeshing, and NPC movement/ai is poor which breaks a lot of the immersion in an otherwise fantastic idea. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were enjoyable, yes, but there are a lot of flaws that are difficult to overlook.

It would be nice if they would use their own Onyx Engine next time.
It looks sweet and offers big world without a single loading time.
I also think it wouldn't be a problem to modify the viewpoint to the First Person Perspective.
Just look how great Dungeon Siege 3 looks (Which is the first game using this beautiful engine)

The engine is from this decade. Bethesda used it for Morrowind in 2002, updated it for oblivion in 2005, Fallout 3 in 2008, and now NV in 2010. The engine is being updated constantly to keep up with the times, so much so that it is hardly distinguishable from the Gamebyro Engine they started with.
