Another game is using Oblivion's sounds!

I've lurked the forums for a while now, etc, etc...

Basically, just downloaded the demo for a certain game off the Xbox Live Arcade - Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale. Immediately I noticed something interesting - quite a few sounds were ripped STRAIGHT out of Oblivion. The initial goblin enemies you fight during the tutorial? They make all the same sounds that Scamps make in Oblivion. The sounds for picking up an item/switching between inventory tabs/equipping an item? The exact same sounds as Oblivion uses.

Is this legal? I don't know. Possibly so. But I felt upset that someone would use original material created for a different game by a different company and not at least give some credit for it.

Mods, if this truly is a legal issue, I beg of you: please alert the dev team at Bethesda/Todd Howard/Pete Hines that this is going on. The team that created TES:IV is downright amazing, and deserves credit for all they do.

Games and movies often purchase sounds from sound banks, so an individual sound may be used in multiple places.

It's called Stock Sounds as well. There are tons of games that use sounds like those. And no-one has ripped off Oblivion. I've seen people claim that Oblivion ripped off THOSE games.

oh yeah, sound effects get reused all the time in movies, television, and even video games. the most notable of these reused sound effects is known as the Wilhelm scream. google it. once you know what the sound effect sounds like, I swear you will start to notice it in every movie you watch. This sound effect is also used in some modern video games (red dead redemption I think is one of them). even my wife has started noticing the sound effect and whenever we hear it, we look at each other and laugh.

The Wilhelm Scream is the most used SFX in the world. Hell, even StarCraft used it. Click on a Terran Academy next time you play it
