Another Goofball Wrye Bash Question

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:40 pm

Well here's what I'm puzzled by, and I'm sure there's an answer somewhere but I've looked and I can't find it.

I have added TamrielTravellers139c to my game, and in Wrye Bash it displays two of its elements with a red bar all the way across the frame.

TamrielTravellersItemsnpc.esp
TamrielTravellersItemsVendor.esp

These are the two problem portions of the mod. I just wanted to know what to do to run these, what changes I need to make, and do I run them at all.

I am also trying to figure out what to do (if anything) about mods that show up in WB with Purple lettering. This is apparently something I need to fix, but having look around none of the instructions seem to have anything to do with how the program actually looks or works.

THANK YOU for any help offered, it is appreciated.

When Bash is open ..if you look at the Icons at the Bottom...far right is a ? mark in a Blue Circle....Read it in its entirety.

As for the TT(Tam Travelers) find the thread for it and Ask there...

Posting your load order would help also....as the Red would indicate a missing Master.

To post LO with bash......right click top header....."File", then click "List mods"......Paste here in Spoiler tags.

Use only one of those esp's.

and i think its tagged as no merge.

I changed mine to merge like i was told to do , no red esp then.

That's what I did. It worked. Thanks grandad.

Just out of curiosity, is there a simple guide to Wrye Bash that would make sense to a non-modder? Everything I've seen has been just comically bad at explaining how to get this program to work properly. What I'm looking for is not a list of what it does, or some outdated screencaps that only cover certain small areas of function.

Is there a guide that shows a load order, the various things that can go wrong with one, and then step by step explains how to use Wrye Bash to correct them?

I understand there are things in certain mods that need to be "added to the bash patch", figuring out how to do that (even though the concept is simple) is a nightmare. Is there something somewhere that's deals with function instead of features? Maybe I'll make this a separate post.

BOSS is what you need to fix load order problems. And at the very end of the first post of the Wrye Bash thread is a spoilered simple good guide to creating bashed patches.

I found something that actually explains how to use WB to make a patch. It is from January of 2010 and it certainly dated, but the way it's presented is exactly what the average non-modder needs to get things running right.

http://broblivion.blogspot.com/2010/01/very-basics-of-wrye-bash.html

This page, expanded and updated to include some more basic troubleshooting is perfect.

I'll take a look at that thread again, thanks gothemasticator.

Really - no guides are good - not even http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=bashed_patch?

Tell the authors of guides what they can do to improve.

No! I actually like that one. I was looking at it earlier today and then I bookmarked the site and couldn't find the page. Thanks. As far as an improvement, there are some elements there that are just vague. "Safe" is a big word. "Nasty" is a big word as well, and it's also in there. Some catagories have no listed action at all. But it is useful. Again, the one I linked to above is the best thing I've seen as far as the approach of the people who wrote it.

Again, I am sure this is old hat to you, but to me that page is alot to digest. Some entries don't have a comment at all. I am not a novice, I've been adding mods to games since Morrowind and I have to say the biggest change since last time I was here is how relativelyly easy it is to get a modded game working. Wrye Bash still baffles a large number of people, it is a very complex and powerful program, and ideally the instructions would be written by people who know everything about it sitting side by side with people who know nothing about it.

Tonight I've had some luck searching the web for answers, and I just saw the info referenced by gothemasticator at the end of the Wrye Bash thread on this forum. It looks like a very good list of what to do with the rebuilding of the patch, so that will really help. It's listed as a spoiler, oddly enough.

I'll keep looking around, thank you very much for the help. I will get this thing working yet!

One of the best up-to-date guides out there for people new to Wrye Bash, linked in the Wrye Bash thread - the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1123302-wip-wrye-bash-pictorial-guide-for-newbies/. If there's anything you don't understand the author will gladly expand on it.

Yes, it's a lot to digest at first, but after a few builds it becomes easier.

Well, I think I finally got a decent Bash Patch together with the help of the folks on the forum.

First thing - the game runs smoother. Not sure why, but I've backed Streamline off alot and it's still all buttery.

Second - when I ask Companion Vilja if I can "check her gear" (I think we've all been there, am I right gentlemen...?) she does not do so. In fact she doesn't do anything. BUT! A human skull appears in mid-air just over my right shoulder. This would be one of the many skulls you'd find laying around a dungeon or after a battle with a skeleton. It's just... there. A human skull hanging there doing nothing. You can walk around and look at it. If I go somewhere else and ask again, skull. It doesn't do anything. Just, SKULL. If anyone has any idea why this is happening, I would really appreciate it if you'd share that information with me.

And really, thanks for taking the time to offer some help.

This glitch is caused by Cbash. At the moment it's recommended to disable it by going into oblivion/Mopy (wherever you have that installed- I would recommend installing it in C:/Games/Oblivion/yadayada if you have either Vista or Win7 as your operating system to get around potential UAC problems) and renaming Cbash.dll to Disable_Cbash.dll. Having Cbash enabled is bound to be causing other problems with your load order as well at the moment. When version 293 of Wrye Bash comes out these problems should be fixed

Hope that helps.

Artorius.

Now THAT is some useful information. Big thanks Artorius.

So, do I have to re-build the patch or re-install or re-anything? Or will stopped CBash cure me?

Also, the skull identifies as "Share" when you observe it. Not sure if that matters.
I of course thought of "Cher" the elderly entertainer, but it's clearly not spelled the same. That said, there is an obvious resemblance.

Oops sorry, I missed your reply before. Just disable Cbash and rebuild the bashed patch and you should be fine. Remember to activate any mods that Cbash would have deactivated if it found extra that were mergeable (This will be an extremely useful function of Cbash when it's bug free since it will free up esp slots for other stuff :)). Mainly UL Landscapes patches, otherwise you will see graphical oddites or other issues.
