Another Instance of "I feel old!"

Post » Sun Dec 14, 2014 7:06 pm

I just watched the latest episode of TableTop (with Wil Wheaton) on YouTube and I am feeling old!

This episode had him playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ3gKVr9taE with 3 kids, all 9 years old. As they were chatting, ALL 3 kids said, "What is Star Trek?" Such a staple in my own life, spanning many decades, it is hard for me to imagine anyone NOT at least hearing of the shows in all their variations or even the new movies that have released in the past few years.

There are lots of ways I find myself feeling old, but this instance happened to hit me from left field :)

Well the last season of Enterprise aired the year they were born, so it's not impossible. I still find the idea of children not knowing what a landline or a mechanical camera is quite funny. Their perception of technology excludes much of what I grew up with.

Wall I know I'm not old but when I saw my GF's brother who is six years old watching Beyblade I was like "damn I used to enjoy it when I was his age"

I got that feeling this past week when I heard Mariah Careys Christmas album released in 1994. Then I realized how hot she still is.

There are a lot of things that catch me like that. Its hard to imagine they've never heard of or seen Star Trek though. The shows were pretty much everywhere and repeated frequently.

Other things I know kids are never going to recognize are things I took for granted. I was born in 1962. Anyone know what this is? http://image0-rubylane.s3.amazonaws.com/shops/charmingandcheap/11542.1L.jpgOr these? http://2670.antiquesnavigator.com/ebay/images/2010/120562215572.jpg%C2%A0

Great. Now I feel even older.

That's a stand for cobblers to craft shoes around. My great grandmother still used her mangle in the 90s, and most of the other links are broken. :P
