Another "stuck on install" thread

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:51 am

Hi there,

I'm sorry to bother you with another "oh noes, I'm stuck trying to install a past elder scroll game halp pls oneoneoneoneoneone" thread.

Anyway, I tried to install battlespire following the sticky today and guess what... I got stuck :) Kind of annoying, since I managed to install all other past elder scrolls games.
The problem is when I open Dosbox and type "mount c games -freesize 300" then "IMGMOUNT D Battlespire.cue -t iso", I get the following message: "MSCDEX: Failure: File is either no iso/cue image or contains errors".

I made the cue/Bin files with MagicISO but it wouldn't copy it to c:/Dosbox/games/BATSPIRE or c:/Dosbox/games, so I Installed it to Desktop and copied it from there manually to several other places (I didn't know exatly where the 2 files should be copied to). Maybe that's the problem?

Hope to hear a solution soon,

kind regards

EDIT:
Hmm, OK, MagicISO now copies the file to any folder...

The iso files are supposed to be in the dosbox folder, at least that's where I have them. If thats not it maybe they got corrupted or something, you could try making new ones and see if that helps.

I don't know if DOSBox supports bin/cue format, but if it does, you might want to try the *.bin file. I don't want to go into too much detail since I have a limited knowledge of CD image formats, but the *.cue file is more of a table of contents. The *.bin is where the data is actually stored.

If I were you, I'd mount the image file in a virtual drive in Windows (I use[d] Daemon Tools before I switched to Linux, but MagicISO can probably do this too). From DOSBox, mount the Windows virtual drive as a CD drive.

Hmm, I removed all the iso's .. Installed them again, this time directly in the Dosbox folder, but the result remains the same...

I hope, it's not somehint with my CD-ROM, I just bought it from e-bay.

Edit: Nevermind.

If you do what I posted then it should work. I've never seen a need to mount an image file from within DOSBox.

Alternatively, if you want to use the real CD (and I have no idea if this will work with Battlespire):

mount d d:\ -t cdrom - (this is assuming your CD drive is "D")

No problem. However, I recommend making a copy of the CD and using the copy. I personally do not use original CDs to play the games since they obviously aren't being produced anymore.

Just a quick question: Are you sure that MagicIso is generating .iso or .cue/.bin files, and not some other type?

Quick answer: Yes, .cue/.bin files
