Anti-cheat method?

What is going to keep this game from becoming a genre-smashing CoD MW:2. How do you guys intend to keep people from destroying the multiplayer side of your game, which lets face it IS what will keep getting you money either from DLC, or monthly or whatever you guys plan to do. Please just don't release and forget. There are hundreds of thousands of fans that are waiting for a good fps that isn't >v

This is my main concern for the game. All I can say is they have a good track record dealing with this type of thing.

I know they do but i want to hear the answer before i pre-order, because this one thing makes or breaks it for me, well maybe some kind of hostile computer take-over DRM i dunno secuROM or some such... also very very important.

Wouldn't doubt it. New Vegas will be using it so Beth will probably continue using Steamworks for all the games they are publishing.

VAC was/is very poor at detecting OpenGL hooks, Punkbuster is much better, but both systems have their faults. If EvenBalance could cure the lag issues it causes, I'd like to see a combination of at least both of their strong points

[added] Might be a while before either can handle 8 cores

They should get a cheat detector like in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYSMrA3J9tU
If the server sees your cheating it will make you do no damage, die in one hit, so your hacks are pretty much worthless.

The thing about MW2 is that their creators have clearly become greedy. In past games; the game came out and updates just kept coming without the game-company demanding anymore cash. Just because the makers of MW is desperate for cash, it doesn't mean that Splash Damage/Bethesda will go down the same path and slowly turn the game into [censored] because they've attracted a large newbie fanbase, that want the game to become more easy and are willing to pay for whatever is thrown at them.

If their smart they will have a open beta for 3 days and have people break the game and do everything in their power to exploit it that way it will reduce cheating tremendously, I never understood why some dev teams never do this.

Tell me about it. If someone could make this into a Cheat detector for games it would be a great day in gaming.

If it sees you cheating. So unless the detection rate is ridiculously high it is the same as punk buster or VAC without nearly as much penalty for cheating. Personally I think your Steam account being banned a much bigger motivator than you doing no damage.

The little server mod this guy uses detects really noticable hacks like really really quick reaction time I.E aimbotting, if it sees you moving faster than everyone else (in TF2 you can't sprint so they'd have to do something special for Brink) it will kick in. Think about it this way if every server happened to have something like this hacking would be worthless, and maybe the hackers would end up thinking (I know a hacker thinking strange right <_< ) that since every time I try to hack I'm unable to do anything so maybe I'll try and play the game normally for once and stop being a stupid hacker. Just a thought. :whistling:

They would just make harder to detect hacks. Same concept with people who crack/pirate software.

An admin presence to ban the offender would be far more effective, on any decent server the painfully obvious hacks would be dealt with in a few minutes or seconds. I preferred the admin mod I worked with on Counter Strike which would point out to the admins on that "playername's view is upside down", an entirely automated systems seems like it would get in the way more than anything. Without the player knowing the system was automated also makes it so they are unaware of how they were actually "caught".

I am curious if PB or VAC has a list of unchangeable values (running speed, fire rate, etc..) that it would look at to see if someone is hacking. It is also important to remember that VAC works on a delayed banning system, so people saying that it hasn't done it's job because they see people are hacking need to look that up.

They would just make harder to detect hacks. Same concept with people who crack/pirate software.

And this.

This is also the biggest issue for me, nothing like investing your money time and energy into a game to have some hackers ruin it for you. If you can't control the hackers don't bother making the game imo. If there are hacker issues I'll be gone, as will most of the people I play with. I'd be willing to shell out $20 a month just to play on servers that are guaranteed to to be hacker free. It's like an infestation, hackers come in, other people feel like they have to hack to stand a chance against the hackers, and it spreads like some infectious disease. A little while later the game dies because paying customers won't put up with it. If I am gonna shell out $160 for 3 copies for myself ,my wife, and my son to play, I would really like some assurance of some anti-hacking utilities being put in place.
