Blizzard uses Warden as part of the game client, to look for and detect cheat programs. It would only make sense for Zenimax to do something similar. As far as what their exact plans are though, noone knows. They will probably not go out of their way to announce it either, because the less the people that try to cheat the system know about how it can be detected, the better.

You can't cheat in an MMO by modifying the game client. More sophisticated methods than that are required, like packet editing :P

ESO will presumably use all the same techniques that other MMOs use, including checking incoming packets for plausibility and checking your hard drive for known malicious software. And they will fail at about the same rate as the others, but they will keep trying.

There's no silver bullet here.

WoW still has chinese hackers/farmers flying underground at great speed and mining nodes from below. I once saw a level 1 orc going from valley of trials to orgrimmar while walking on mountains and ravines like they were flat lands. There are some level 80+ areas where if you do /who 1-90, you get some level 20s which there is no way in hell they can be there and not attract every mob on the map.

It's much harder to cheat in an MMO, where most of the game code runs on the server, than in any game where the actual game code is stored locally (like most games that can be played either solo or coop).

But still possible, of course.

The server determines what is happening and it tells the clients, not the other way around. Communication between server and client is probably encrypted. This isn't like diablo 1/2 where clients could just hack their character informatoin or like previous ES games where you can type in cheat codes.
