An anussual request.

Ok so most people here are asking from Bethesda to add higher resolution textures and other stuff to the pc version of Skyrim.
I agree with them, but I'd like to ask something else,I didn't saw other people asking.

I'm going to ask Bethesda to include high quality music!!
Yup that's right, music is a factor most people ignore in games, but since we are talking about hd expirence why shouldn't music also be hd ? or at least sd and not lower quality ?
Oblivion's music files are 192kbps mp3s, and 192kbps is lower quality of sound than a standard audio cd.
So regarding music not only Oblivion but all of today's games are stuck in LD,which stands for Low Definition.
Low Definition is anything with less quality than a standard cd,Standard Definition is the quality all audio cds we have, and High Definition is the quality above standard cds.

Standard audio cds have a sound quality of 16bit/44.1khz,which is equal to a mp3 file at 320kbps.
From what I know everyone's computers and consoles have the hardware to support such audio definition,so the question is:
Why not use that advantage ?

I am an amateur music producer myself, and I know that all you have to do to give people SD audio files is just make the right clicks to select the right properties before exporting the audio file from your D.A.W.
It's just some minutes of work, and since everyone's system will be able to play that sound quality I don't get why this isn't done already not only by Beth, but from other developers also.

But I post that here because I know Beth tries to do the best possible for their games before their release,so I have a hope that someone will hear my plea and add at least Standard Definition (320kbps mp3) audio files in Skyrim.

I think the reason they do 192 is because it still sounds very nice, it isnt 'crappy' and it cuts down on filesize and power needed to play the file. I would love to have 320kpbs, but I see why they wouldn't do it.

I have to agree with this. I've heard some obviously Low-Def audio in some games, and it always makes me cringe. I typically game with a pair of Sennheiser headphones, and differences in audio quality are readily apparent. Yeah, even my old laptop that was barely capable of running Oblivion is capable of HD audio. This should be a no-brainer.

Personally I'd prefer 1411kbps source WAVs, but that's just me. :D

An anussual request.

:bonk:

But uh, yeah. I never really noticed any problems with the quality of the music in the past games. High quality stuff is always nice though, I suppose.

This, right here. With a high-content game like TES, disk real-estate is an extremely valuable commodity. I don't mind slightly less-clear music if it means that much extra content in terms of gameplay.

I believe this game is being released for consoles as well.

And I googled anussal, all I got were a bunch of "anusal creams" ... :(

Ah! He meant he was being anol.

Yeah that sound would be good, but people would have to pay 200$ just for their sound card. :P

Why would disc space matter for the PC version.

I would think all of the files are recorded in the .WAV format and then resized for the game.

I think that it is definitely possible for them to include higher quality tracks for the PC version because there can be multiple discs. And the ps3 version could have the higher quality tracks too due to the disc space of the blu-ray.

The only thing preventing this in my opinion is quality standards, where 128bits is acceptable, and the Xbox360 where disc space is limiting.

I never thought there was anything wrong with the sound quality, and I pay close attention to the music in games and movies. I guess it's not as good as it could be, as you said, but it doesn't make a huge difference to me. As long as it's got good music and I can hear it decently, I'm not complaining. I can see your point though.

What is an anussual?

I must say, regardless of how I felt about any of the games, the music has always been good.
Maybe its not the highest quality, but I haven't heard anything bad about it, I really doubt increasing the bits/s would make it perceivable better.

I agree with OP. Remove the superfluous voice-acted dialogue that doesn't matter* (do it Baldur's Gate, PST, Morrowind style), but penetrate our ears with blissfully high-quality music instead. I would totally support this.

*I'm talking about if there's not enough disk space.

It's not like the Console and PC discs are the same, so they can get their regular sound, because I don't give a flying fox. I want HiDef for PC :<

Well the reason why the audio files are low definition is probably because of disc space.
While this doesn't matter too much on computers, it does matter at a 360 where everything needs to fit into a DVD.

Oblivion's sound quality has never bothered me, and I use hi-fi Sennheiser headphones, but I guess I'd notice a difference if I could compare it to full quality.

I'll put my request here too. I want to have more characters/letters for names Oblivion caps out at what 15 letters whereas morrowind I dont believe had a limit I wanna give my nord a name like Randagulf the Iron fist but if they keep it like oblivion I may be lucky to fit 1 word its small and weird but simple and its something that though not instantly recognized is understood by many of us who want to make a more unique name/title for our chars.

I know Xbox360 Oblivion had one track missing off it, I'm not sure if that was an error, or because they pushed disc space to ultimate maximum overdrive power, but for consoles, it's definitely something that isn't likely to happen.

On PC though, why the hell not have sound of optional qualities, everything else is? Maybe there's some logistics or something I don't know about the process.

Also, I might have to come up with my own Unusual request... Give me some time to link it around!

Yeah! They could release this game on light-based holographic Kryptonian crystals from the future, and then they could make the audio sound BETTER than REALITY .... :woot:

I don't think size matters anymore... Mass Effect had 2 DVDs for the 360, you can install it in your Hard drive. Forza Motorsport 3 also had 2 DVDs..

Skyrim could well do that, unless they are budget constrains to keep it under 1 dvd ( which is highly unlikely imho )

And the PS3 has Bluray which I think can hold up to 25 GB and double layered 50 GB
