Any Advice for a Melee & Unarmed Character Build?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:13 am

Hello fellow Members :)

I just started a brand new save that is a Melee and Unarmed character build. Right now, the build will concentrate mostly on the following things that I decided to concentrate on:
  • Strength, Agility, and Endurance at high values (e.g. 7 or 8)
  • Melee & Unarmed-related perks (e.g. Stonewall perk)
  • Sneaking (for the sneak criticals)
  • High DT and/or DR (e.g. Toughness perk)

Now, this is my very first time making a Melee/Unarmed character build. So, I'm asking if I miss anything important, or if one or more of the above items isn't important. Or in other words, any advice or tips for a character build like this. Thanks!

Well, and this is just personal opinion, but I'd probably toss high Survival in there, if nothing for the sake of poisoning your weapons for additional damage.

Also: Depending on what you like, I'd either suggest: A.) Intelligent Brawler; High AGI, STR, END, and INT. B.) Perceptive Brawler; High AGI, STR, END, and PER. As well as Mid to High INT. or C.) Critical Brawler; High AGi, STR, END, and LUK.

They each have their advantages, IMO:

Intelligent Brawler
Pros
- High # of SP on level, faster to get Melee Weapons and Unarmed up to use High End Weapons
- Able to talk your way out of some situations
Cons
- High INT means points point in Medicine/Science/Repair that can be better placed elsewhere for a melee character
- Can gain access to higher tier weapons as early as level 10 (with 9 INT and Educated)
^--- Can leave you wondering what to invest points in.

Perceptive Brawler
Pros
- Can detect enemies at a farther distance, and in some instances decide the best equipment for the situation.
- Can usually talk his/her way out of distastful fights.
Cons
- High PER/Mid - High INT points points in skills better placed elsewhere.
- Some people are annoyed with long distance enemies appearing on the compass.

Critical Brawler
Pros
- With the right perks, every few hits will be critical.
- Can usually end a fight in a short amount of time.
Cons
- Can be overpowered very easily, leaving little to give the character a challenge.

Hope this helps.

Just remember to pick up real nice perks like unstoppable, slayer, super slam, piercing strike... agi is of course not as important as str but you want at least 7 so you can get Slayer.

Requirements for Slayer: Level 24. Unarmed 90. AGL 7.
Oh, nevermind, I thought you said you needed 7 STR for Slayer.

Unlike most range attack, you got to time your attack with Melee/Unarmed.

Unstoppable isn't as great as it looks because it require your opponent to use Melee/Unarmed and block, if you are planing to stop at Lv30/35 I wouldn't recommend it.

If you are going to have low luck you should look into Heavy Hand.

I disagree. A well made unarmed character can take on deathclaws with little trouble.

What??? The only somewhat troublesome creature for an exclusive melee/unarmed build is Cazadors, the rest is dead meat.

And you have ranged weapons, throwing knifes/spears or tomahawk coated with poison are devastating.

If nothing else you have grenades, Cazadors and Deathclaws are very succeptible to them, even with a lower explosives skill.

Remember to learn all the special unarmed moves.
Except for "Khan trick" It's pretty worthless.
