Any archers enjoying their playstyle?

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:14 am

I started an Archer/thief/assassin style character and plan to put most my points into Archery, Sneak, Pickpocket, and one-handed. I am mostly an archer but want to use one-handed for my daggers in case I need to come in close for the kill. My question is who else is playing a character similar to this, and are you enjoying it?

I greatly enjoy archery. My Bosmer uses a sword-'n'-board and a bow, and it's probably the most enjoyable character I've made so far.

I'm not really your type of character, but I still with a lot of Archery and it is a blast so long as you don't try to snip enemies to far away. There is a glitch that causes projectiles to fly through enemies causing no damage is you try to shoot them from to far way.

I've heard complaints of people starting over simply because archery wasn't powerful enough for them. I actually like it very much, it's working out well for me. On the standard difficulty I can take out most dungeon miscellanea with a single shot.

I am having great fun as a stealthy archer! I think archery has the biggest improvement since previous games, it's really good fun as well as now being a viable and effective method of combat.

Yeah I am not sure how viable my build will actually be when it comes to questing, but being able to assassinate from in close, and from a far sounds pretty fun.

Im loving my archer build. I really wish I can engage at long range. Hopefully that gets fixed.

I'm really enjoying archery, it's really improved over OB. When paired with a high sneak, I can take out almost any level enemy as long as I have a line of sight and darkness advantage (aka nighttime or poorly lit areas indoors).

My killing rotation usually looks like this: Let off a sneak crit shot from around the corner, hide / wait until the NPC paths then reverts to normal, and repeat until it's dead. Cheap but VERY effective when dealing with high damage enemies like steam centurions or draugr over/deathlords.

What else are you guys using other than archery? Will my dual wielding daggers be sufficient or should I look into something else?

So far I've got 3 points in archery, 3 points in sneak, and 1 point in lock picking

Have to say i found him a bit too easy to play. But in general the Archery Sneak combo is one of the most enjoyable ones for me.

How do you do the sneak attack with a one-handed weapon? I was dual wielding daggers when I snuck up on someone and clicked my mouse to attack them but never got the 6 x damage multiplier from the "backstab" perk. Does it not work with dual wielding daggers?

Archery is MUCH better when you turn off the crosshair.

Being able to do massive damage in close with my daggers is the only reason I took this perk. Could someone explain to me how it works, and why it didnt work for me?

I'm playing very similar to what you are. But only difference is that I'm putting a lot of perks into destructive magic as well. So far I'm liking it a lot! I can change back and forth between magic and archery as I please with good success.

I have been doing the exact same build as OP Archer/Sneak/Lock picking/(Smithing) with Light Armor thrown in. I feel so OP at the moment doing 3x sneak damage. I have so many damn potions because I never have to use them (only during dragon fights) and if somone gets close I'v got a

Archery + Sneak (with some one-handed for backstabs) ruined the game for me. It's so awesome that I'll never be able to play other types of characters in this game :P.

Could someone please explain to me how to get "Backstab" to work when using dual wielded daggers for the damage multiplier?

I started out just as a hand to hand stealthy and once I started using archery I never looked back. I use it most of the time now. I have most of the sneak perks and coupled with those, archery really rocks. I can often take down more powerful monsters by using sneak attacks and doing some massive damage. You just have to have patience at times, but the shots really pay off.

I like archery but I wish there was an archery power attack to slow enemies, and nota random proc.

Love it. Not sure you even really need the 1-handed stuff.

On 360 I'm able to snipe characters who are outside of the default viewing distance (i.e. they are only visible when zoomed in with the bow)

I am still trying to get input as to how to use the backstab perk. I dual wield daggers but not sure how to get the damage multiplier when I sneak up behind someone/something and attack it. Also what type of armor are you guys using for your archers? I have been using light armor as I feel like it best suits that style.
