Uh, they'll make the view distance as far as possible, but you are limited somewhat by the technology. But the console view distance on oblivion was pretty impressive anyway,so I don't know what you're worried about. But it's not like they intentionally gave the consoles a lowe view distance. They're doing it to the best of the capabilities of the consoles.

The screens so far seems to be from a console. I don't know if the view distance is any better thoug as I don't play on a console myself.

i guess so,previously i played oblivion on my pc

but this time i would play skyrim only on console,so i guess should be ok

judging from the screen, view distance is awesome, wonder how console handle view distance on moving objects like humans, animals and monsters

http://elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/ice-wraiths/, http://elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/lake-mountains/ and http://elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/mountain-forest-path/ are all captured on a Xbox 360. I think it's a great draw distance.

Not fussed about the distance per se, if it's good enough, why ask for more when performance issues could result.
However, I would love to see variable draw distances, especially weather and fog related. Don't you think it would be nice to see a city far below on a clear day, as in Oblivion, then an hour later be caught in a thick fog, not able to see monsters until they are upon you, and terrified of falling down a precipice?

You've come to the right person :P. I first bought fallout on the ps3, but when i got home i noticed it was also available on pc :P. I played it for a couple of hours on the ps3, got so sick of the crappy aim you get with thumbsticks that i went back the same day to buy it on the pc. Gave the ps3 version as a present to a friend :P.

Anyway, the view distance compared to ps3 and pc on max settings is a bit of a difference, i'd suggest going to youtube for a comparison video, you should find loads there.

It probably will be able to. Oblivion looks worse than Skyrim, yes, but it's running on it's best possible settings on the same hardware (same consoles) so really, Skyrim should also run about as fast, just more optimised so it can do more stuff.

thatd be great
the best instance would be out on some moor at night and have a werewolf be closing in during a thick fog

I want to tell you something about consoles and view distance.
It's hella' demanding, rendering a lot of objects.
It's sadly ALWAYS decreased a lot for consoles, compared to on a PC. Even for a "godly" engine as Cryengine 3.

Ok I am so pissed of by the ignorance in terms of technology in this OP. However I will not be pissed in my reply, the reason you console gamers have less view distance is because your console can't handle more view distance.

in real life in that kind of climate you wouldn't really be able to see far, unless on a rare calm day

Oblivion's view distance on the 360 was far enough, just not very detailed.

They already said that they are making it a huge veiw distance if I climbed the highest mountain I should be able to see many locations unlike in ovlivion when I climed that mountain they all kill the fan at I did not get a nice veiw.

The game's setting from the looks of most of the pictures also seems to have a natural cold fog and dense tree lines which helps mask the view distance compared to oblivions openness which would sometimes allow for some weak spots in which the distance was not rendering, overall though it think it should be fine, Oblivion was fine for the most part so why wouldnt Skyrim.

I think some of you may have forgotten how it actually was in oblivion, a creature would simply spawn meters away and if you took a step backwards, it disappeared. THAT drawing distance needs to be bigger, it doesn't matter if the landscape can be seen a long way, if we cannot see the creatures.

There are different kinds of view distances for different kinds of objects. Creatures and characters were one of them.

I think it's not the best thing to compare with Oblivion here, because we all know it rendered objects horribly. You lost like 10 FPS if there were 3-4 NPCs on screen, lol :P
