any downsides to becoming a werewolf?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:16 pm

ive been offered the chance to become one but nothing is explained about what will happend and any side effects of it.

im not against it per se, but i dont want to find that every now and again my character goes into an uncontrollable rampage killing everyone in sight like in films. from a gameplay aspect that would fubar me.

so is it just a morph ability totally in the players control or are there hidden side effects?

Other than fleas, no.

The only side effect is not getting the "Well Rested" bonus.

Big deal.

The only downside is that you don't get the Rested bonus after sleeping. But then, I've never slept once in game. (except for a quest that required it)

No side effects other than you lose the ability to gain the rested and well rested bonuses, which allow your stats to level slightly quicker after having slept for varying periods of time.

What you get outweighs that imo; Basically a near-unbeatable 'God mode' where you run around eating everyone, and 100% disease resistance in both your human and werewolf forms. Also, if you get the ring of Hircine you have no limit on the amount of times you can transform in a day.

only downside is no rested bonus when u sleep, everything is fully controllable. at first i regret becoming one, but now i would say ur crazy if u dont become 1.

You just lose the ability to get the rested bonuses, which is like 10% indoors and 5% outdoors. Not a big deal. The only other issue is that if you use werewolf you aren't leveling your abilities or contributing to your progression. Which in some cases can be a good thing, but i personally never used it while i was one.

There is no bonus whatsoever for doing it, i.e new quests or opportunities.

No way to heal other than over time during combat.

Although you do much more damage in this form, you have 0 armour and together with the inability to heal can make the werewolf terrible when it comes to a crowd of mobs. I've found however Werewolf form is useful against single opponents, so long as you have high HP and stamina, and can kill a Dragon in one melee fight.

Also, something which hasn't been mentioned yet is you can run faster than horses, meaning that with the ring of Hircine you could theoretically zoom around the map to your heart's content. Plus, the roar ability scares everyone and scatters them, meaning large groups are not a problem.

The only way in which large groups of humans are a problem is if you don't realise you can send them packing with a roar, and then easily hunt them down and kill them.

I demolish groups as a werewolf. That extremely overpowered charge attack move that knocks people down is more than enough to beat just about everything.

The only thing I heard was you can't get well rested, but since its only 10% it seems like a really good tradeoff.

Nope. You don't even have forced transformations. Only thing is that you won't get the Rested bonuses when you sleep.

One thing to remember is that werewolf attacks are based on your 1-Handed weapon skill. And you can't level up skills including combat ones. The biggest issue to me is you can't pick up anything, either.

Becoming a Werewolf or Vampire in modern times means being associated with the Twilight series, meaning that as a male you'll loose your sixual organs and become swarmed by young girls under the age of 13!
It truly is the worst of all curses!

so theres no quest lines or possible factions that are locked off due to becoming a werewolf?

eg. i hear about the silver hand in the game all the time and becoming a werewolf would mean they hunt me, or i can join them after declining etc

I duno I like my bonus to skill gain.
Also a correction is beds you own is 10% beds you do not is 5%, however if you go through the whole wedding bit and its a traveling companion you get the lovers comfort for +15% anywhere as long as they are with you.
couple that with one of the stones and you can raise your skills fairly fast.
