any floating castles in skyrim?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:14 pm

I remember an elder scrolls book coming out with a floating city on the cover. I don't know where it was located, but in Oblivion one of the most popular mods was floating homes and castles. I hope they have them in Skyrim.

I'd much rather see that as a mod than as something to be included in the game by the devs. It just doesn't seem to fit the mood of TES games to me.

Wasn't there a floating building in Morrowind? Near Vivec?

Eh... personally no. Its not so much that it can't happen, its just that if there is a floating anything... its got to be a significant part of the world. Just some castle that happens to be floating just takes things a little to far towards the 'wacked-out-completely-overdone-fanatasy.' Mods, are fine, since floating things has never been hard to do, I'm sure we will see plenty more again.

that would be the ministry of truth, a floating moon that was suspended by vivec. apparently it has crashed into vivec since morrowind.

Yea, but adding more to the universe takes away from the ones we already have. I don't think there should necessarily be something floating in every province of Tamriel. I'm not saying it would be totally out of place... but yea not a bunch of castles up in the air and stuff like that.

that would be the ministry of truth, a floating moon that was suspended by vivec. apparently it has crashed into vivec since morrowind.

AND completely destroying life in Morrowind as we know it, forcing the Dunmer out and to become refugees.

Even more reason to not want big floating rocks nearby.

I see, couldn't remember what it was called, or what it's purpose was. It's been a while since I played MW.

you're thinking of the elder scrolls novel, the infernal city, written by greg keyes...

that wasnt really a floating castle, it was an otherworldly floating city that harvested souls from tamriel, basically... it killed people, used their souls to fuel itself, etc... if ya wanna know more i suggest getting the book, cause its pretty good.

anyway, i highly doubt skyrim is going to have floating castles... i suppose its not impossible, since the battlespire was a floating battlemage training facility... course we all see how well that turned out.

its just highly unlikely... you'll have to rely on mods if you want floating castles.

The Infernal City. The floating city is called Umbriel. I wouldn't be surprised to note the city being mentioned. The book details what happens in the 200 years between Oblivion and Skyrim. And I don't doubt that the city would eventually make its way to Skyrim. (Just finished reading the book)

We should get another book release announcement soon. It has to be released before Skyrim. It bridges that gap. Wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

Yes, I'd like to see a floating castle/city/landmass/ocean/settlement/cave/fort/shrine/inn/stable/camp/ruin/location, etc. That would be astounding to have, for me.

it was mentioned on UESP, the next book has apparently been set for release in september, two months before skyrim comes out.

I'm all for big ideas and imagination. I would much prefer floating castles than hellish dimensions.

Agreed. Instead of all the dimensions entered in Oblivion I'd have rather had floating cities/landmasses and stuff.

there better not be, thats stupid and unrealistic

EDIT: what would be cool though, is an underground massive city, like moria, from the lord of the rings, that would be sweet

lich freak - "there better not be, thats stupid and unrealistic, what would be cool though, is an underground massive city, like moria, from the lord of the rings, that would be sweet."

While I agree that the huge underground city would be awesome...maybe a safe haven for the werewolves and vamps of Skyrim to hide...floating cities and castles may be unrealistic but they are part of the lore of the elder scrolls, just like elves, goblins, trolls, dragons, magic and all those other "realistic" things we see in real life every day. Isn't that what RPGs are all about, realism?

Unrealistic? In a fantasty RPG that has magick, elves, goblins, werewolves & vampires just to name a few. You're concerned about realism? Right.
Anyway, floating cities are already a part of TES lore.
