I never really used the minigun on my first playthrough after the Concord battle, but during that battle I just naturally stopped firing a few times to let the barrel cool down. It never occurred to me NOT to do that based on all my previous gaming experience.

But the other day I was flying in a vertibird just messing around with the minigun and I kept holding down the trigger, and holding it down, and holding it - until it was white-hot - with no discernable bad effect.

So those of you who use these guns regularly: Is the color change meaningful or just for show?

... uh, what? That's, um, completely not me at all. I think Fallout 4 is the best Fallout game yet, and every time I play the original Fallouts I'm thinking "this is what Bethesda ruined?". I'm probably a damn apologist for Bethesda at this point. I mean, I understand not everyone likes the changes, but people are just too melodramatic about it... and their logic can get a little silly. >.>

lol no worries, I just thought it was funny someone would get that idea from me of all people. Would have been cool if the Minigun's spread got worse and worse as it heated up, but when we're talking about a man-portable Minigun I think realism can kindly go hang.
