Any guesses of the performance hit of DX11?

Just getting some early predictions in to what type of performance hit we'll expect, answer the poll above.

I read somewhere that DX11 has the possibility to give better performance than DX9, because of some new things (I don't have knowledge about this, so I'm just saying what I read).

But honestly I don't think that it's possible to implement DX11 well enough for better performance with a patch. For better performance, the whole game would have to be built on DX11.....my only hope is that - as said by CryAdam (I think it was him) - the advanced graphic options will be enhanced, so that I can set the water and other (for me) uninteresting things to low. Maybe I can run it then with DX11 with acceptable FPS.

If you can vary the tessellation setting then it will be fine. The large textures shouldn't hit performance much unless you don't have the vram. DXTC is supposed to improve performance while having large detailed textures.

my guess is 15-20 FPS hit, because wow that patch is awesome.

My guess is though the performance side of things will be comparable to AVP rather than the first crysis. Thing about dx11 tessellation and other stuff is it will make it a tad more demanding than it is now, but with dx11 also as you and the guy before said it's more optimised more for multi cpu and multi gpu systems. Also the fact it's not going to render a full open world like the first crysis, therefore the performance hit wont be as harsh.

If the performance "hit" will be anything like turning on DX11 in AVP, then I'll be quite satisified. I did not notice any performance hit at all on my system.

Until I import Crysis 1 maps into Sandbox 3. I can see my GTX 570 quivering in fear already.

I remembered crytek claiming crysis 2 to run better than crysis. A fresh crysis 2 would have better fps than crysis if this is what they meant but if they still hold this claim to dx11, then good luck to them.

Based on what's to be added, a high res texture + dx11 will have a high chance of 15-20 fps loss. My 450 gts seems to run a fresh crysis 2 at 30 fps:(

Well I think there will be a performance hit but I expect it not to be that hard. Dx11 features Multithreading and other performance optimisations and I bet Crytek optimised it for Crysis 2. That's why they have taken so long. Well i got an Asus notebook with a slightly overclocked Geforce 540M GT and an Intel Core i7-2630QM and I get like 42 FPS average on Very High and like 27 to 34 FPS on hardcoe settings. I've also done some tessalation benschmarks and got like 40 FPS. Well I bet it will manage to run Dx11 with acceptable performance. :)

Probably around as good as Crysis 1 on DX10. On the one side, there will be more things costing performance in Crysis 2 but on the other hand, the engine is better optimised than the CryEngine 2 (or the Warhead Version)

Could you tell me which benchmarks you've run? I would like to try it out myself....If it doesn't work, it's no use to even download the DX11-package....

Well you could test the Demos of Nvidia on http://www.nvidia.de/object/cool_stuff_de.html#/demos
The stone giant demo contains a benchmark funktion. If you want to test your performance on Dx11 you could download the Stalker: Call of Pripyat benchmark found on http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1692/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:_Call_of_Pripyat_Benchmark_.html :) Of course there are a lot more benchmarks out there but i just searched for something to see how it performs. ;)

Thats probably because AvPs DX11 features were poor.

AvPs DX11 options contained..

Anti-aliasing: 1x/2x/4x
Tessellation: on/off
Advanced shadows: on/off

Im pretty sure AvPs tessellation wasnt even used on the environment and only on character models (even then it was extremely weak). Playing through AvP I personally cant even notice whether tessellation is on or off in that game and yet it still chews up 10FPS on my system.
