The game crashes every time I start a new game, and I only just bought the GOTY edition in the Steam summer sale. The intro video plays fine, but as soon as I'm born, it will crash. Sometimes the screen won't even load, it will crash at the black screen.

It's not a settings issue, I tried running on lowest settings possible and it still crashed just as early.
