Any merchant that carries more than 1,200?

Post » Fri Sep 16, 2011 1:11 am

Im at level 5 and ive finally got my first item worth more than 1,000 (happened to be 5,000, I got lucky) and literally every merchant I go to only has 1,200 or less on them.

Is there a merchant that has more than 1,200 that buys at a fair price? If not, whose the closest?

1,200 is generally the best you'll do for awhile. There is a merchant that has 1,500 but he's associated with the Thieves Guild and is quite bugged. Some of the merchants added via the official mods have 2,000. Once your Mercantile skill reaches 75 you can invest 500 gold into shops so instead of having 1,200 to buy your goods they'd have 1,700 (you can also fortify your Mercantile skill to 75 to get this perk). And once you reach 100 in Mercantile all shops will have an additional 500 gold to barter with so instead of 1,700 they'll now have 2,200.

Thanks, so until I get my mercantile up should I go to that merchant in Anvil? Someone told me he's good.

Yes. You are looking for a merchant that has high gold and low mercantile skill. The smith in Anvil is an excellent choice from this perspective. :foodndrink:

Plus, if you get your merchantile skill up high enough (i think journeyman?) you can invest gold into a shop, increasing the amount of gold they hold permanently, and getting you even more for your items :3

Edit: oops, saw that someone beat me to the post, my bad >.<

Funny question, since in vanilla Oblivion every merchant has more than 1,200 septims to purchase items with. What they won't do (at low PC skill levels) is pay more than 1,200 for any one item. On the other hand, if you brought in 300 items worth 1,200 or more each they'd buy every darn one of 'em at 1,200 a pop. Of course we all knew ...myself included... what you meant to ask and responded accordingly.

I'll point out that if you play Oblivion on PC, some mods provide added merchants with a higher individual item purchase cap. I believe the merchant Arthmoor provides with Faregyl Village is one such, at least after one completes the quests associated with that mod (and possibly sooner). Me, I use Enhanced Economy, which does indeed increase the single-item purchase cap of 'some' merchants. But at the same time they now have a hard cap of total cash-on-hand. One merchant might, for instance, show 3,200 available with which to buy your loot. Each item you sell drains his reserve by the amount he paid for it. When he hits zero, that's it, no more purchases until he builds up another reserve. Very realistic, and makes disposing of your spoils an adventure in itself. EE offers far more than just merchant fund caps and altered item-purchase prices, but those interested can visit its thread in the Mods forum for more details.
