any mods which add random locations and random miniquests?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:45 pm

Hi, you guys remember all those random miniquests in Oblivion? No? Well there were a few.. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Miscellaneous_Quests You see those quests which "Do not appear in the journal" and various other mini-quests that do not require a dialogue? I'm looking for mods which add those, AND are ACTUALLY FUN and GOOD. Hope I don't sound too demanding..

Anyway

I'm also looking for a mod which adds lots of random locations (like huts, small ruins and unmarked roads) which also maybe reworks old ones etc. Just makes the wilderness more alive, you know?

Any such mods which you could recommend?

Enhanced Economy by TheNiceOne version 5.0.2 comes to mind. The Merchant quests are somewhat random. It's a terrific economics mode anyway. I'd recommend it if you don't have it.

Another one I remember is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27583. The latest version is fairly recent.

They may not be spot on what you're looking for, but maybe you want to take a look nevertheless.

I think http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7902, but I don't know it very well... Looks like an Overhaul Prototype. Personally I really like OOO, because it makes the game much more immersive. But it is only a matter of tastes

Dark Brotherhood: Continued? It's more like one quest where you repeatedly track down and assassinate randomly created NPCs.

The Elder Council mod has Legion 'quests' where you basically ride to other towns, or kill rats repeatedly

Also check the http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=931523&hl

I can't really think of much else... let's check the almighty Advanced search:

Just curious, why do you want no journals for them? If you're worried about it getting hard to manage there's always the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32266.

As far as adding stuff to the world and making it look more Immersive there's mods like :
Unique Landscapes
Kragenirs Death Quest (not very big on immersion though, given stuff like Snow White and the seven dwarves)
Integration
Two of them are quest mods though that add like 60-80+ quests... each

If you are strictly looking for quests, Kragenir's Death Quest adds loads of new quests and one really, really huge main quest.

Have you had a look at http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1123328-tie-tamriel-immersion-experience/ (T.I.E) yet?, which uses only vanilla resources

Yes, but only if you say so during installation. New items and new creatures are optional only. So you can play with just the vanilla resources and only get the gameplay changes from Fran's. In this case you need not download the second part of Frans (the huge download of some 500 MB), you only need the smaller file. The changes make sense in my opinion, I will never ever play vanilla-vanilla EVER again. But that's only me.

Whatever we tell you, you need to see it and play it for yourself to form your opinion on the various mods.

I think the reason why OOO adds so much is for balancing purposes. OOO makes the game place centric and so you will be limited by your level on where you go in the game. (you would get killed by the higher level monsters) That means you have less choices at any one time of what you can do during the game. adding new content helps balance it out so that you won't have to go and grind levels by doing dungeons over and over again in order to level enough to go to new areas.

PS. I'm not sure about the above since I haven't played for a few years.

That is making Frans sound tempting Tommy. I really don't like Vanilla. I may give TIE a try but will have to disable COBL to do that.

To read more about what Fran's does it is best to read the readme included in the mod download. However since it is an .exe file you can't access it directly. So do the following:

- Make a backup copy of your Oblivion.ini file that sits inside /My Games/Oblivion...
- Make SURE you made that copy!!
- Create a temporary folder, totally outside of /Oblivion/... path, wherever is convenient for you
- run the exe file, but install it into this temporary folder
- You get a feeling what's it's about, options etc.
- Peruse the documentation, it's a pretty big readme file but full of good stuff :)
- Retain whatever you want/need from the docs for later reading.
- Do a proper Uninstall of Fran's, not just deleting the temporary folder
- Just to be sure, take the backup copy of your .ini and re-insert it / overwrite the present one in /My Games/Oblivion. Chances are that Fran's made changes to the ini during the temporary installation.
- Also, when Frans still installed in temp folder and you want to keep it, and want to continue playing your game, do exchange the .ini with your backup copy to be sure you not have any Fran's changes around! :)

Then you want to look into Frans. It's very modular and you only need to add the things you want. Aside from OOO, it's the classic when it come to level scaling.

Frans only makes changes to the ini file if you install the optional addons, and then only to register the BSA archives. So there's really no need to go through all that bother with it. Having those BSAs registered will have no impact on the game if someone decides later that they don't want to use the optional components.

Check out The Ayleid Steps. 100's of new 'step stones' scattered around Cyrodiil that transport you, semi randomly to different locations, including some new dungeons. There's a shortish quest to activatye the steps, plus further quests (that I've never done), but once activated the steps are a lot of fun.

Yes that should normally never be a problem. Load the savegame, go to a save place inside (your house, one of the inns, a church) and wait there for 3 days or whatever is the cell reset time in your game. Then everything has been reset at least once and the game is ready for continuation with Frans or whatever.

Check the readme of Fran's if anything particular is written in there about this.

Fran's also has a dedicated thread here in the Mods Forum, but you need to search for it. I don't have the link at hand. There is a lot to read there too, I've seen it.

But I still have one gripe; the Item leveling.. Is it possible to remove this feature entirely? Sure, it may be a bit unbalancing, but still..

Other than that I know of no way to turn off leveling for Frans items.

Obviously TIE unlevels loot lists as does a plugin for http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7902.

If you ran TIE and Frans together you might get more unleveling of loot but also encounters. See http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1082453-relz-tie-frans/ for more on doing that. Actually even with that combo I'd bet that the frans loot is still leveled as per frans and then all the vanilla loot is unleveled. Arthmoor would know better than me though.

hmm i encountered a bug (or so I think).. I think the "specialized combat" which I enabled, ruined the marauder archer AI. All they do is stand still and watch while i hack them to death.

is this a known francesco's bug?
