Any new texture packs other than Qarl?

Post » Wed Mar 16, 2011 9:29 am

Are their any new up to date higher res texture packs for Oblivion? Qarls texture pack 3 was the last big texture pack which was some time ago. I was wondering if someone had made an even newer pack?

There is nothing as complete as Qarl's, but you could try AmpolX's textures, if you can find them. They were on Nexus, but now all that's there is his cave retexture.

I wonder why there are really no world retextures for Oblivion when there are tons of different ones for Morrowind. (like my favorite one Darker Morrowind)

I should just give them to someone else so they can upload my work as I keep forgetting to rehost it :banghead:

Um, how about TESA, or someone at TESA perhaps? It's a nice place, and they take care of their mods (and modders), from what I hear.

Thanks JdeRau, didnt' know about those ones..

Damn, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=87184 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=87183 screenshots look amazing.. The tonality of colors, truly "earthly".. What a fantastic job!

@ AmpolX: can you please tell me what replacer is the first link from? (Second is Jerall I guess, just downloaded!)

@ Anithinks: Mtgr's Textures definitely deserve mention.. Very well done and covers stuff not touched by others.

@ dmxdex2020: "better" in something visual is highly subjective.. All replacers discussed so far are high quality jobs.

I would add http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18677 - an extensive work, definitely superior over Vanilla but with same memory usage.

Also, http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18430 with http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18429

And regardless of how you replace textures, don't forget to get these must-haves:

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513 (all of them, but for Bruma you may consider http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26625 which I personally find superior to BC's one)

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19370

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305 awesome complete weather overhaul with improved weather textures

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34199 Lets you see outside windows!

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19628

For a new experience, you may also experiment with http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30054 visual effects.

Enjoy :)

Edit: for terrain there's a very good Hi-Res replacer called http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15245

I've been trying to find a copy of your Godstatues retex for the longest time... I used to have a copy on my old computer and old Oblivion mod hard drive, but both were lost to reformat/crash. Would you happen to still have a copy?

Vibrant textures looks interesting, I've been using Qarl which runs fine on my HD 5870 but I wouldn't mind an HD texture replacer that's more close to the original game, just more higher res. Does Vibrant textures replace everything like Qarl's does?

AN doesn't replace any textures. It contains new ones for the new weathers, but it doesn't replace vanilla textures.

@ Browncoat: Vibrant is the same resolution as vanilla, but more vibrant. Hence no performance hit.

I use the following esp-less texture packs together (installed in this order), which pretty much cover everything in vanilla Oblivion and SI, in addition to things like RAEVWD and AWLS. Most are available on Nexus:

Vibrant Textures
Qarl’s Texture Pack 3 Redimized
Bomret Texture Pack Shivering Isles.
Better Tiling 2048 LOD Textures
Reduced 2048 LOD Normal Maps
HTF's Noise Replacer.
Improved Doors & Flora.
Improved Trees & Flora.
Improved Signs.
Improved Fruits, Vegetables & Meats.
Mythic Animals.
Mythic Creatures.
Mehrunes Dagon Retex.
Better Amulet Replacer.
Better Ring Replacer.
Better Staffs.
Oblivion Texture Upgrades Pack: Armor Retexture.
Arrow Replacement Pack. (technically, these arrow replacement packs are mesh replacers)
Arrow Replacement Pack – Shivering Isles.
Arrow Replacement Pack – Armamentarium.
Arrow Replacement Pack – Martigan’s Monster Mod.
Arrow Replacement Pack – Oscuro’s Oblivion Overhaul.
Arrow Replacement Pack – COBL.
Mike’s Clothes Replacer.
Better Silverware & Goldware.
Non-Plastic Clouded Crystal Balls.
Better Looking Tools.

I have other things which replace other textures, but which require an ESP file to work, e.g. some book and potion replacers, so I didn't list them here.

Hey Stromgarde? Would you be able to put up a link to the Better Looking Tools retexture? I couldn't find it on the Nexus.

Don't use that PES download of mine. Everything is all outdated (by two years almost). I'm working on getting everything sorted out here soon.

I think i will stick with Qarls texture pack which seems to be the best at the moment. Be nice to be a texture like NMC texture packs for fallout 3. But its alot of work and months. Qarl also has really high res lod packs also. I need to find a decent lod pack. Highest possible. When i go into cities my fps seem to shoot down. Better cities might cause issues. My system is extremely high end so i dont know why i get low fps in cities espcially when their is like 3 or 4 npcs bunched together.

1. QTP3 rocks but isn't complete, you may consider other texture packs to replace what it doesn't cover.

2. Check RAEVWD and TES4LODGen if you really enjoy seeing things from afar.

3. You may have a NASA rig and still Oblivion will easily kneel it, if you go overboard with mods and textures and if you don't use certain tools (OSR, Streamline, Quiet feet max, 4gb patch for 64bit systems).
It's not much an hardware issue - the limit is in the game engine which is far from optimized.

It will. I completed all the landscape and clutter textures but i'll have to separate them into two since the total file size is roughly 2 gigs.
