Any news on FNV style survival mechanics?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 6:00 am

Just wondering if anyone has seen any news on the survival mechanics from Fallout New Vegas returning. The eat, drink sleep requirements from the hardcoe mode? Also did they mention gear degradation at all?

Those features are the things i've been hoping for the most. I know modders will implement them (given time / demand)if the game doesn't feature them, but it'd be a day 1 purchase for me if it did ship with those features, otherwise id probably wait until they came along like I did with Skyrim.

I'd hope so, if there's one thing a post-nuclear game should be about it's survival in a wasteland.

the Power armor's hud shows item condition on it.

whats more is we see armor break off from enemies as they get shoot,

so some form of item degradation is involved.

If you look at the video in the combat section you notice some pieces of enmies armor are being broken off and same with synth robots, don't know if that going to be related to degredation system.

I didn't see the armor come off, thats awesome. I guess that is possible now because of the layered armor system?
I ask about item degradation because there's no condition stat in the new pip-boy. Its got me worried, they are gonna do away with it like they did in Skyrim.

One thing I did spot was Food and Water at the top of the house building craft menu. I expect that to be like a Sims thing for your house guests. But I hope needs will also be necessary for the player. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world after all.

Typical Bethesda 'world flavour' I'm assuming.

At the scene where he's commanding the dog I thought I saw a spit and campfire behind the garage.

I hope that there will be hardcoe mode again. I can see no point not having it in the game. People used it in FNV and those who disliked it didnt. Easy and everbody was pleased.

I honestly thought these features would be a given considering how popular they are on the Nexus modding site. Both Fallout 3 and Skyrim were heavily modded to add these types of survival mechanics when they weren't present, and FNV was rebalanced by the top mod to make those mechanics much harsher and more enjoyable for those looking for that post apocalyptic survival experience. Surely they wouldn't leave them out?
I know the Beth guys are absolutely self aware with this stuff, so they know how popular it is. But still no mention of it?

I'm almost too afraid to ask about alternate ammo types and bullet crafting. I really hope there is more to look forward to for all of us Fallout New Vegas, Frostfall, iNeeds fans.

Things like hardcoe mode are often left out because they are basically impossible to balance, and they better left to modders who can create systems with far more control over rates, like how fast you get hungry, rather then trying to force some hunger rate a player might not like as devs do when making hardcoe systems.

NV's vanilla hardcoe mode was absolute garbage, and most mods just replaced basically the whole thing anyways. Why bother spending time making something you know is just going to get replaced anyways?

Its one of the few things modders can do far better, since modders can offer far more control over the systems then devs can/are allowed to.

But its much easier if those systems are already in place. Skyrim never did get a fully functional degradation mechanic even though a couple modders tried their best, and it was seriously in need of one because players never went back to their old gear, there was no need to.

Also I started fnv on xbox360, so i can tell you that i really appreciated the work Obs put in, bringing those features to console. It might not have been perfectly balanced, but it was still used and enjoyed by many.
