Any news on LAN?

Post » Tue Sep 21, 2010 1:01 pm

Yes, I know this is probably an old and over-used topic (when I searched it, I found 7 results).
However, all the results I recovered were also old (I think the most recent one was from February).

What I'm looking for here is not speculation, but a definite answer: Does Brink have the option to use a Local Area Connection? The developers have given a clear (and logical, however unfortunate) ruling against split-screen, but has LAN also been given the definite axe? I have heard nothing of this recently, and want to know if anyone has heard anything new.

Splammage is a primarily PC developer - LAN should be really big on thier to-do list, or even their all-done list!

I wouldn't really take that a bad thing though (to anyone who may get the wrong idea about what REV said). I applaud SD for trying to change console gaming.
There are too many reasons why I do not play console atm, and SD is helping to fix some of the mistakes made by other development teams.

What are some of those reasons?

I am interested. I havent played a PC game online since OLD OLD OLD Rainbow Six. Never played CS, never played WoW.

I just thought I would have to KEEP upgrading a computer to play a game. The console eliminated that with having games for the platform as is. BUT, it seems that most PC games are good on most newer PCs from the get go.

PC gaming has a lot of hidden benefits to it mainly because it requires this consistent upkeep and upgrading of one's machine. It basically ensures that the community is at the least somewhat mature and considering the price tag involved with computers and their components there is a far less amount of Justin Beavers clogging up the game.

Its a tradeoff you have to come to terms with. A good gaming rig that you build up over the years can cost you maybe $40 bucks a year in the middle of your planned computer life but starting a gaming rig up is incredibly expensive. Being a console gamer for awhile and having tried to make the switch with SC2 let me tell you that it is a much harsher adjustment then most would like to believe.

Some would say that the Xbox's Live sub fee more then equals this out but convenience is something to consider. Also remember that the PC gaming community is respectively much smaller then the console gaming community so the chances of making those friends in real life and then playing with them online are much lower.
