So any Ocean's 11 style casino robberies possible?

Post » Thu Jun 24, 2010 11:29 pm

So I got the Vance's Submachine Gun from the Win hideout and it got me thinking. Is it possible to rob a place like the Gomorrah?? I know I've seen all of their safe's behind the counter and I think it would be amazing if you could somehow rob a place like the Gomorrah or Atomic Wrangler and get away with it. I never see any doors to get behind the counter, so I was just wondering if it was possible. If this is not possible, seriously Obsidian, this would be a sweet DLC mission.

"Hello folks this is Mr New Vegas and we just got breaking news, an unknown gang of thieves have robbed all of the casinos on the Strip. The Tops, Gomorrah, and Ultra Luxe. There have been no witnesses and there are no clues as to who these robbers could be. Securitrons are still searching the area for clues and Mr House has promised that the problem will be solved soon and for now just to enjoy The Strip. This is Mr New Vegas and I just wanted to play this song for the casinos who got robbed."

*Ain't that a kick in the head starts*

That does sound pretty awesome, but wouldn't it be for more of the stealthy characters?

for stealthy characters it sounds boring, anti climactic and impossible. i mean all you do is sneak up there and take caps out... besides, someone would be watching at all times. as for armed robbery... sounds like fun. mabye a quest line associated in a dlc.

Of course, you would recruit members on the strip and other places to get a gang together to rob the casinos and you assign which ones they go to. Your stealth stat has to be pretty good, of course. Maybe somewhere around 60 and above.
Also, the higher the Stealth, the less clues for the Securitrons you leave. If too many clues get out ( I say 3) you will be exposed and shunned by the Strip. With some Securitrons attempting to arrest you all. Another thing, you have the option of who you should hire, and if you pick the wrong people clues could get out, but if you picked the right people everything would go smoothly and people would always wander who were the guys who robbed The Strip.

I think it has a ton of potential

Armed robbery would be so impractical. If you sneak, you have the dread that you left clues and might get shunned so it's a big gamble. Besides, wouldn't it be more fun for everyone to be talking about the guys who robbed the casinos and not know who they were? All the people in the Tops "Did you hear about the robberies? those guys must have been professionals." etc
But like every Fallout game, it would be a choice. Should I run in and kill everyone? Or be sneaky about it all? Fun fun :fallout:

I actually just ripped off the Ultra-Luxe.

SPOILER ALERT!

During the finding of Heck Gunderson's son, I went to find the investigator and the White Glove guards attacked me. Seeing that my unarmed is 19, I didn't sneak any weapons in, and they knocked my companion unconscious in a matter of seconds, I decided to run out of the casino and get all my guns back. I then proceeded to go Chuck Norris on those cannibal motherf***ers! It looked like Anakin Skywalker on the sand people, I used Maria, the .357 Revolver, the Mysterious Magnum, the Service Rifle, the Cowboy Repeater, and I saved the Sawed-Off for Mortimer's face. Marjorie, Mortimer, Phillippe, and everyone in that casino associated with the White Gloves died in a hail of serious gunfire. So I ripped off every dime they had for the trouble.

Subtle B)

I was thinking though.. timed C4 explosives and time bombs set to go off at the same time in all the casino's at once
use disguises to get into the various places, plant the bombs everywhere, get clear and boom goes the strip.
Then you walk in, mind the splatter, and collect the cash.

Sounds like a good alternative, if only C4 was more available and less expensive I would so do that.

Edit: one of the options for the quest could be to get a guy with a huge warehouse or majorly big stock of C4 and just plants bombs in key places in the casinos. Then click and go get the money from a vault or safe type thing. 10 Million caps!! WOO HOO!!!
You get mass murder and a multi million cap theft at the same time. I like it. :disguise: B)

Just so you guys know, the amount of money I received from ripping off the Ultra-Luxe was minimal (5 stacks of Pre-War money and less than 100 caps). Later I might try ripping off the Tops and not save, but just see what I get from their stash and let you know if it's worth even planning such an attack.

You found a vault or safe in the Ultra Luxe? Or did you kill everyone and loot their bodies?

The Tops:

Guards- Armed with 9mm pistols and silenced .22 SMGs for the most part, some with switchblades and straight razors. Bartenders pack sawed-off shotguns. A couple of Torini's guys have 9mm pistols. Be careful, two of the guards were packing .44 magnums and were pretty accurate. Some of the gamblers were quick to whip out 10mm pistols.

The Take- 1 Pre-War money and 11 caps from the safe. If you can't pick a hard lock, don't bother. The first locker I broke into was empty, the other two are experiencing some sort of glitch which won't allow me to pick them.

The Real Money- Whacking the bartenders and card dealers produced the most cash, usually 100+ caps a piece. The back of the restaurant (average lock) contained 5 Nuka-Cola Quartz bottles. The liquor stash was pretty good with 11 scotches, 8 whiskeys, 2 vodkas, and a wine. Knocking off the gamblers produced random amounts of caps (highest was 114) as well as a few more liquor bottles and a few chems. I made sure to grab a few guns I didn't need (sawed-off and silenced .22 SMG) because there were enough of them to fully repair them, those should also turn some pretty good money at a vendor.

The 13th Floor- I broke into every hotel room (save for the one on the end that required a key). The only loot I found between them was 4 cartons of cigarettes and a bobby pin. I got 5 sarsaparillas and 4 Nuka-Cols from the vending machines. All hotel room locks are average.

The Total- I took about 800 caps, 3 $20 NCR bills, a load of liquor, 5 Quartzes, and a couple guns to sell. Overall money made should be close to the 4000 cap range if I was to sell all of the goods outright.

There are 2 safes in the cashier's office of the Ultra-Luxe. For such a high-end resort, the overall cash I found was underwhelming to say the least. Even after killing everyone and looting their bodies.

Unlike the Chairmen, who all had at least a handful of caps on the guards, the members of the White Glove Society had nothing of cash value on any of them.

I want one too. And, you could play to your strengths. If you're stealthy, you can be the sneak. If you're muscle, you can be the distraction. Etc..

Thanks for the information, I'm cool with Swank to bring all of my weapons into The Tops so I think I will rob the place now :tops:
That's what he gets for being so trusting :ninja:

Have you tried robbing the Gomorrah? They look like they have a nice amount of safe's behind the counter.

I think this would be a great addon. It would also be cool if it was a real mission, and you had options. For example to change your karma you could either share the caps with your comrades who helped you rob the place, or pull a joker from the new Batman movie, and kill off everyone else. Whatever one you choose would either lower, or raise your karma.

That would be cool, a should I take the money and run or split it with my partners moment to end it. And if you don't pay your partners in crime then they will try to kill you later in the wastes.

You... Are.. A genius...

That actually sounds pretty fun... and I am sure there are some other places you could rob as well.

Here's something I came up with that might be in relation to your little idea.

The Robbery

Setting:Ultra Luxe Casino.

Time:1:00 A.m.

The story:
Please be warned, Mild Spoilers.

The Courier peeked through the doorway of the Ultra Luxe, taking in the surroundings. A small guard stood against the wall, almost half asleep. The courier took a step back and turned around. Behind him were the men and women he had hired to perform this very delicate operation. There were a few Caesar's Legion troops, and some Great Khans. He had called in a favor with Caesar's Legion to assist him in this operation, with promise of troops, and as a return 35% of the loot. With that much of a percentage, you would think they would send more then four of there troops to insure the success of our operation. Bastards. Along them also stood three Great Khans, of whom The Courier had saved earlier in his travels, who had requested at least 15% of the loot. Next to them towered Veronica, a women with an above average need to hit people in the face, wearing a terrifying Brotherhood of Steel Power Armor outfit. Across the strip was a sniper, laying in wait, who went by the name of Boone.Sure they were a rag tag bunch, but the courier had hoped if he could be successful with this, and walk away alive, he may attract more important people to his little "Operations" with a lot better skills... The plan was simple enough. Take the entire Casino hostage and threaten the rest of the Hotel into surrendering all weapons. Kill only if needed. He would then place the Hostages in a group, and strap on a great amount of C-4 to insure no one crash's our little party. The Caesar's Legion Troops would stand outside as a distraction and protection, with a few hostages to bargain with and try to delay security as much as they could. Secure the money, and then with sniper support and casualties, make our way out of the Hotel and the strip and onto the monorail for extraction. Piece of cake.

"Alright Everyone, Mask up!" said the courier, as he too put on his mask.

He pulled out his lucky gun, Maria, and stared at the doorway.

He kicked the door wide open and yelled,
"This is a robbery, everyone get on the [censored]in floor right now!"

Sound about right? That's what I pictured when I read your topic at least. This would indeed make a very interesting addition to Fallout New Vegas. Lots of twists could also be included, like if some of your men survive, Instead of paying them kill them, or instead of taking hostages just kill everyone, Or Caesar's Legion Betrays you to take all the money, Things like that.

Gomorrah:

Guards- If you ain't armed like Neo in The Matrix, you ain't takin' Gomorrah. Lots of guards (more than the Ultra-Luxe and the Tops combined) with sawed-offs, .44 magnums, 10mm SMGs, and even a riot shotgun. They are armed to the teeth and there are loads of them everywhere. Oh, and they are also the only guards that have thrown grenades at me.

The Take- If you can't pick very hard locks, you can't even get into the cash room. I can't get in quite yet.

The Real Money- Guns and liquor galore. I walked out with 2 10mm SMGs, a .44 magnum, and 2 sawed-offs that were all fully repaired as well as a riot shotgun at ~80% and 6 frag grenades. 3 atomic cocktails, 4 Nuka-Colas, 13 scotches, 17 vodkas, 25 whiskeys, and 12 wines rounded out my liquor heist.

The Total- Without even touching the cash room I walked with 500 caps, a handful of assorted NCR bills, a couple cartons of smokes, a metric s*** ton of liquor, and over 9000 caps in guns. Make sure you don't miss the prosttute outfits. I nabbed 8 of them at 100% condition, worth 390 caps a piece. All said and done well over 10 grand in hitting the Gomorrah, and I didn't even hit their safe.

*EDIT*
I cracked the door to the cash office. 400 caps, a laser pistol, a 10mm pistol, a couple rounds for each, and at least one of every single chem in the game. Not an incredible take, but it was a serious chem stash they had. I also missed their utility room the first time around. I uncovered 3 flamers, some fuel, and a sniper rifle down there.

snip

Man that's some good payout, too bad they are armed to the teeth like that.

Drop_Dead - snip

Yes that would be one of the options. But me personally, I would do it like in the 1960 Ocean's 11 where they plan the whole thing out and by the end everyone is scrambling to find out who did it.
I would have everyone sneak in unnoticed and take the money from their vaults and run. By the time we're long gone Mr. New Vegas is talking about the great strip robbery. But both ways sound really fun, I would have to do them both.

The Atomic Wrangler:

Guards- There are a few of them, but be forewarned. You should choose the location of your first shot wisely. The center of the main bar is not a good idea. Virtually everyone in there is packing, just keep in mind that you're going to have to fight every person there.

The Take- I hit the cash office for 27 stacks of Pre-War money and scattered throughout the place was well over 500 caps. Not bad for a hole-in-the-wall.

The Goods- Expect to find loads of guns, liquor, chems, stimpacks, and cigarettes. Leave at lest 100 pounds available for loot. 7 absinthes, 4 atomic cocktails, numerous chems (several stimpacks and a couple super stimpacks in there), a Nuka-Cola Victory, 19 scotches, 15 vodkas, 12 whiskeys, 10 wines, 7 cartons and 14 packs of smokes.

Guns- I found a couple .357 magnums, a couple .44 magnums, a 10mm pistol, a couple 10mm SMGs, a couple 9mm SMGs, a cowboy repeater, a couple hunting rifles, 3 lever-action shotguns, a laser pistol, and a couple sawed-offs.

Grand Theft Auto has done some nice robberies. I never beat GTA 3, but Vice City had a decent bank robbery mission and San Andreas had a semi-elaborate casino heist. GTA IV had a mission, like Vice City that was a bank robbery which was more about the escape. I always enjoyed those missions.

I agree it would be nice DLC to put a plan in action to knock over 1 or more of the casinos. It would also be nice if they gave you options on how you want it done. The stealth way, the hold up, etc.

I walked into this house on the outskirts of westside called "Wins house"

and inside youd never believe it but here stands two bonnie and clyde wannabes, claming that theyre gonna become famous like vicki & vance, then rob a casino in the strip.

I never saw it happen but last time i went over to the strip somebody said "Yeah a couple tried to rob the tops, but came up short" or something of the sort.

wish i coulda saw it happen :(
