Any one else not getting this?

Well, it's not necessarily unreasonable, after all, one might expect a sequel to bring something new to the series, instead of just transplanting the same core gameplay into a new location.

I feel its much less of a sequel and much more of a re-visioning of where Obsidian wanted to go with Fallout 3 (It makes sense that they'd use the same engine) I'm completely fine with its graphics and I'm super stoked about the game and the additional features added are just perks to an already kick-ass looking game. (I've never been much of a graphics person, I still play Suikoden 1 & 2 to this day its all about great stories and characters I grow to care for an love. :))

Aiming down the sights, hardcoe mode, 'nuff said.

usually heavy graphics focused games are complete [censored].

I completely agree. Take Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for example.

MW2 is graphics focused? Well they messed that one up too... (man I hate that game, really do)

It annoys me that a lot of people share OP's thoughts. I've seen it in a hell of a lot of reviews ("New Fallout? Awesome! Looks the same though, so expect a crap game.") a) How the [censored] does that work? If the original is great and the next one looks the same it's not going to be a pile of crap, it could be worse but odds are on improvement.

Secondly, do the reviewers or our OP here stop to think what might be being worked on if the engine is the same? I mean yes F3 had a pretty tired engine even on it's release, yeah a slick looking NV would be lovely but I'll take an intelligent game over a luscious one everytime. It's like with a woman, sure you want her to be attractive but if you're spending more than one night with the lass it's nice to know you can have a decent conversation, that she's not gonna flip out if you say something or do something a certain way, that she doesn't love Twilight...

Point is sure the graphics haven't changed but there's a hell of a lot more to a game than graphics, you want to look at beautiful things? Go watch a movie or, heaven forbid, go somewhere outside that's nice to be...A game isn't for looking at, it's for playing and enjoying, deciding not to even touch one because it looks average (lets face it, not bad, average at worst) is just idiotic.

I agree with you, but you have to admit that as console engines and processors advance, graphics become more and more important in terms of realism.

At Least TC didnt say it was just an expansion and on that note, who wouldn't pay 60 dollars for a 1000+ hour expansion? its like the people that say this is "Oblivion with guns", whats wrong with "Oblivion with guns"? Dragon Age charged forty bucks for their twenty hour expansion.

I am a bit bummed that the basic gameplaydesign is the exact same as in F3 and fear that I get bored. But all the changes that are made to the mechanics, more focused story and characters really do count, so I will definitely get it.

I must say that I'm pretty surprised by how many people seem to be "targetting" New Vegas for re-using an engine, and how much a lot of people care so much about it. If I had the same line of thinking, I would've missed some of the greatest games ever made. Hell, fan-favorite Fallout 2 is on the same engine, with some tweaks, as Fallout 1.

I don't particularly like Beth's version of gamebryo, but I wish there was more of this type of development in gaming today. Where focus can be more on creating good content rather than struggling with implementing lots of features, optimizing your "omg hawt new grafix" and molding an engine to your liking. Just think back on the Infinity Engine and how easy one could tweak it to create a new RPG.

I always wanted R* to make an RPG.

I absolutely LOVED Fallout 3. I got it on launch day and have gotten all the DLC. When I heard about a new Fallout game taking place in New Vegas I was stoked! I got even more excited when I watched the first teaser trailer. But when the time came for some actual game play footage. I was disappointed. The game looked exactly the same as FO3. Besides the new guns and new location there didn't seem much of a change. Any one else here as disappointed as me?

So, what you're saying is that the appearance of the game engine is what makes the game for you? Ok. I'll be enjoying all of the great new game mechanics and content. See you next engine.

I think that is more then likely what Bethesda is working on right now, which brings up the question how much have they improved upon the engine? (I'm quite curious to see what Bethesda has up their sleeves.) :tops:

Agreed, but if we did just get an updated current engine for the next ES game, they better bring back all the depth from Dagger and Morrowind. Plus I think thats why they let Obsidion make NV, Beth is working on the new ES game. Heres hoping its not a MMO.

It will be ruined if they make it an MMO.

sounds like the OP got his expectations up to high, F:NV has had a short developing time by a "outside" developer...did ya really expect to get some ground breaking leap.

Heck the changes we have seen are mind blowing for such a short "spin off" game.

Theres alot of people here who are only excited because the 'orignals' are making it. But eh, it's just rehashing alot of old factions to be honest. That said, I think New Vegas will be pretty great, I hope Fallout 4 will top this, because each game keeps getting better IMO.

Hmmm....rehashing a lot of old factions....does that sound familiar perhaps?

Besides, one of these factions never existed as anywhere near the force it is now, another never existed at all (CL), and all the small ones are new.

you shouldnt judge a game by its graphics though this does improve imersion it is at the cost of core game thus the many good looking games that have terrible game play

You loved Fallout 3, but are refusing to play New Vegas for being more of the same (which you loved)?

Double standards much?

Exactly, Fallout New Vegas takes everything we knew and loved from Fallout 3 and just improves upon it also adding many new features alongside that. (I along with many of the other firearm enthusiasts on the forums are the most excited about the deeper emphasis on firearms with the customization and the use of real world weapon models as well as more ammunition types/ammunition crafting.) :tops:

it does have a fallout 3 look initially but the SPECIAL, skill and perk system are all gonna be way more meaningfull and the game will be lot harder to play than FO3, also there are more quests, more variety of enemies, bigger towns, more going on in general, not all the destroyed area which was kinda ridiculous, you coulnd't go in the vast majority of buildings or houses etc in FO3, the entire area from dukovs place to rivet city there were no structures to enter at all, not even asmall shop along the way except for that bait shop, fallout 3 was awesome but it had a lot of area for improvement and i think NV is gonna deliver, FO3 was too easy after level 15 and i was always done with all the quests by level 20 and thats without trying. so its gonna be a way better game with a lot more replay value.

While I would have liked to have seen an improvement on the game/graphics engine, I really cannot say I'm dissapointed, sometimes the familiar is a good thing, I expect fallout nexus to be very busy with F:NV mods, I'm especially going to be looking forward to a graphics overhaul.
