Any one else think classes need to be taken out the game?

Post » Sat Mar 22, 2014 6:38 pm

Honestly, that is one of my complaints about the game not being TES "enough". However, it's one week to launch, it is what it is. They would have to redesign and rebalance it, which isn't going to happen. I'm still going to play the game, and enjoy it for what it is, not what I wish it could have been.

Im glad thats never gonna happen, its weird enough to see a heavy armor mage with a bow running around ( and quite frankly almost everyone had a bow in pvp -.- ) - I enjoy the fact that only people that choose for example a nightblade will have access to their skills, infact the only reason why I even consider becoming a vampire or werewolve is because not everyone will be one, especially not in pvp, so it will add a more unique feel to playing as one since its a less common sight and stuff

No. Almost all of the TES games had classes. This seems to me that you just played Skyrim and think that all the other games were exactly the same. Not only is it not feasible, but it is not even a good idea to remove the classes.

pretty much every main game except skyrim had dozens and dozens of classes, much more than ESO. so using the "its not TES enough" argument doesn't work. because until recently TES had lots of classes.

In every TES game I played, I rolled my own - I don't play template 'classes'. It's my opinion that this isn't the freeform TES 'roll your own class' game. Why? Because TES games had special abilities limited only to races, however, every skill from every type is always available. Not so in ESO. I cannot be a Nightblade and chose Fiery Grip from the dragonknight skill line. So no, it is not like TES. And as I said, I'm accepting it for what it is because it cannot be changed, it would open a can of worms for balancing issues, nor am I asking that they do. It's different, and that's fine.

I have to agree that I wish they did not have set classes, and that you could pick and choose which 'class' lines you could pick into.
My main reasoning, is that class is this game already means very little. Anyone can tank, heal, or do damage. Opening up the class skill lines to everyone would allow even more freedom in choice.

There's hardly even a class system to begin with. All the classes do is add a few more pretty spells to your arsenal.

Yes. I never understood why they were necessary in the first place. People like to say they're a necessity for maintaining the holy trinity (could someone explain why to me?), but it's not like this game isn't putting a new spin into how each role works already. There are also games out there that don't have classes like The Secret World.

Though let it be known I'm for making this game as much Elder Scrolls-like as possible.

NO! Classes are working just fine. At this point it would be silly. It's not like Devs are going to say " Oh wait there are a few people that want classes removed, lets tell all those pre-orders we are going to wait 6 months while we develop and test, and then launch after wildstar".

Yeah, what he said.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Arena:Classes

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Intrinsic_Classes

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Classes

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Classes

As you can see, Skyrim was the only numbered TES game that did not have classes.

Actually, you can walk between some of the different (enormous) zones, which are not different continents. All of Tamriel is one continent, only the Summerset Isles are separated completely from it by water. You'd know this if you looked at the map. Later on, with future expansions, they will fill in the spots on the map which are currently inaccessible and you will be able to walk between more of the zones, if not all.

This game is absolutely nothing like SWTOR. You sound like a sensationalist.

Yes the class system is not needed to be honest in ESO. I know why it is there but to be honest it is causing more confusion than it should be. People are looking at the classes and still thinking that a nightblade is a rogue a sorcerer is a cloth wearing dps caster along with the dragon knight as the main tank with templar as the healer.

When in fact a sorcerer can be just an effective tank with the right equipment or the nightblade can be a good healer.

I think if they allowed us to pick 3 starting skill lines of our own choosing and then lock us out of the other starting skill lines to stop builds from being over powered it would work better and people would be able to tailor their builds much more to suit their play styles.

Agreed here. Getting used to a forced class selection at character creation (and only getting to read one book per book shelf) are two things that are taking me a while to adjust to.

It's to late to change the four class system, but I much would have preferred if it was developed differently. Like Mungo's idea above, I think it would have been great to pick our 3 starting skill lines instead of a flat class.

To the thread question: absolutely not.

To add, even Skyrim had set classes for everyone but the player character. Just open up the CK and take a look at the actors section after you load an esp up.

As to how the game 'feels', none of us knows because up until last weekend none of us has played with anything but a beta. A beta that gives a good approximation of how the game will play, but is NOT the game we will be playing at launch.

How would a build be overpowered exactly? You can only use a set amount of skills anyway, so it would just add a bit more variety. At the max, you could have one skill per class (including ultimates), but nothing else. And that includes weapon switching (with zero weapon skills being used).
If this was like most MMOs, and you could use all skills you have access to at anytime, then it would be an issue. But since you have to pick and choose, it would just broaden some choices.

This game should have been designed from the start without classes, which would have helped differentiate this game from others even more. Having said that, they still have implemented a system that creates flexibility with how you play your character, so I am not upset at all.
