Any one else think classes need to be taken out the game?

Post » Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:01 am

They aren't Elder Scrolls, I just want a skill system where I can pick and choose stuff I want, instead of being forced down a path of which I find none of them optimal. I feel like if they just got rid of all the prison tutorial, deleted the smaller islands out of the game, put real time travel from cont to cont so it feels like a world and got rid of the class system, I could like this as an MMO.

Right now though I don't feel like I'm playing an Elder Scrolls game or being part of an online world which an MMO should be. It is more like SWTOR where I just feel isolated in some single player game and I'm just loading up different levels.

Nope. I don't care that they aren't "elder scrolls". The lore means nothing to me. I want a good MMO and the classes contribute to that. We have a lot more freedom in ESO than in many other MMOs, but there's still something to be said for having to make a choice and live with it.

One week from early access? Nope. They'd need months to create, test and balance a completely new system.

Would I like the classes removed from the game? Absolutely. I'd kill for a system that was similar to the Oblivion intro (pick specialisation and 7 skills).

However, it isn't going to happen. Not this close to release and not after release (unless it has to re-release like FFXIV did and even then I'd be surprised).

I personally don't like the classes they chose to make, but I have hope that in the future they'll add more and I'm sure they'll add something I really like eventually (Hint for the Devs - In Oblivion and Skyrim, my character used a lot of Illusion and Alteration magic, bow, acrobatics, athletics and the like. If you could give me some sort of Ranger/Acrobat/Illusionist type hybrid class that would be greatly appreciated ;) )

Yea, I get where you're coming from. Truthfully, I have to admit I feel the same way. Heck, if it were up to me, I'd get rid of that skill bar all together and make players discriminate even more about what they equip. But to be fair, I wouldn't compare this to how rigid SWTOR is, not by a long-shot.

ESO is a good game, it just is. It may not be perfect, and I agree the class system is not very Elder Scrolls, but the overall experience being delivered is really very good.

Yea... This isn't actually about you... Although I doubt that's crossed your mind.

You kind of completely missed the point the OP was trying to make.

Nope it works for me, a lot of freedom to make all kinds of builds, use all weapons, all armor, something you just don't get in mmo's.. I am happy :)

FFS. did you only play skyrim or something? Im just wondering since skyrim was the only game without 'classes'.

the previous 4 games had a lot more classes than this so saying that it isn't 'elder scrolls'y' is false.

This, but the fact that all class abilities use just magic is a different conversation which should take place.

28 optional skill lines and over 280 optional skills; and you're being "forced down a path" which non of them you find optimal?

Okay.

No. The fact of the matter is, the skill system of past TES games simply won't work in an MMO, primarily because it offers almost no build diversity. You cannot have build diversity without set rules and limitations to fit builds into, which is what the skill and class system of ESO is. Saying the classes are against the lore doesn't really hold water either:

Dragon Knights are based on the Akaviri Dragonguards. The Akaviri have, until relatively recently, ruled Tamriel through the Potentate; so their influence remains strong. Not to mention the lands of the Ebonheart Pact was invaded by the Akaviri just a few years before the events of ESO.

Templars are, IMO, based on Stendarr's more militant followers. While the Vigilants of Stendarr would not be formed until after the Oblivion Crisis, there's almost certainly been other holy orders of the God of Mercy/Justice/Whatever in the past; particularly since the situation in ESO's time is not unlike what later occured during the Oblivion Crisis.

Sorcerers seem to embody the dark side of magic, particularly those that deal with Oblivion: summoning Daedra, forming shadow pacts, wielding arcane lightning, etc. You've seen plenty of their type in past TES games, mostly as enemy conjurers.

Nightblades are magical assassins, augmenting their physical capabilities with magic; particularly from the School of Illusion. I'm sure many people who've played past TES games can relate to this type of character, it seems to be a pretty popular playstyle.

At this point in development? No. I can only imagine the harm it would do to the game to make such a radical change.

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Classes

I never did play oblivion but i do remember morrowind, specifically it had quite a few classes. I do seem to recall that you could make your own class though if you didn't want to be tied down to which ever that survey set you up with. (Or was the survey in daggerfall?) Either way could you imagine how hard it would be to balance a no class system for pvp / pve?
