Any other games like New Vegas around?

snipped.
Then I played the FO games after that... dang... once you openworld, it's hard to go back to rail-games

I'll never forget the first time I saw Oblivion. It had me at hello - and, you're right - there's no going back. :D

I just finished my 4th Oblivion, MQ done after 337 hours of gameplay. I did KotN but not SI yet and did almost all of the side quests in TES4. That's bang for your buck, as they say. Love FO3, FNV, and Skyrim coming. It's great. :)

Honorable mentions would go to Portal 2 and the last Batman. I got stuck on Uncharted2 but will try again.

Bioshock is neither RPG or sandbox.
It has that 50's style to it but that's about it.

Stalker is a pretty good one although I've never played it myself I've seen gameplay. It's pretty sick to say the least, might buy it once I get a new graphics card and video processor.

Fallout 1 and 2 are also pretty awesome.

This may be a bit old school, and you may have problems getting it to work with current operating systems, but look for a game called System Shock 2. Bioshock was trying to be a homage to SS2 but, in my personal opinion, didn't really pull it off. SS2 isn't open world the way Fallout is but it has a strong role playing element in your character design and multiple paths to achieve your objectives.

As far as gameplay and story goes it's right up there with Fallout but I will warn you that the graphics, especially for anything organic, are pretty dated. There's a strong modder community though that has gone a long way to keep it current for you young sprats of the "can't watch black and white movies" generation;).

I three the sandbox
I four the sandbox
I five the sandbox
I six the sandbox
I seven the sandbox
I eight the sandbox.

No it actually has very minor RPG elements, in fact the only ones are the plasmids and tonics or whatever the buffs are called.
And I wouldn't even call that an RPG, it's like saying Halflife is an RPG because you get to choose what weapon to use.
Same thing really.
Hell, COD has perks right? RPG then.
No it's a very fine game but an RPG it is not.
Cause there is no "role-playing" in choosing what magic power to use, just like there is no "role-playing" when choosing what weapon to use in Saints Row 2.

And then we have the "harvest" or "release" moral system.
But the game can hardly be considered borderline RPG for that puny thing.

Cause if it is then Brink, COD, BF, Skate, Tony hawk, Resident Evil et cetera are all borderline RPG's as well.

But fine, let's say it's an RPG, then it has two roles: 1. Not a child killer. 2. Kills children with glee for more powah level.
...
Pretty crappy RPG if you ask me.

Has anyone played METRO 2033 ? I was wondering if that is comparable to FALLOUT by means of scavenging, rpg, fps, etc. Heard it might be,but have heard of glitches (when first released).

I never did find the perfect gun(s), although I sure gave it a good run. As far as interacting-with-NPC's RPG'ing, I can't remember any. You got the phantasmal chick who keeps urging you onwards and telling you to hurry, and the b*tchy scientist chick who just gives you orders, and various other NPC's who give you quests along the way, but I can't remember any dialogue options other than 'ok', or 'bye'. I RP'ed a semi-insane scavenger racing all over a junkpile world killing everything i came across and looking for cool weapons loot. It kinda plugs into the same category as Far Cry 2, in my opinion- fun and interesting combat, weapons and gameworld, but not enough plot or story to slop over the rim of a thimble.

Haven't played it yet myself, but from what I hear, it's more in the vein of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
