Any plans to fix broken quests

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:48 am

I realize patch fixes have been going out but one of my major quest with the companions is bugged and I would like to complete that story line on my current character. Are there any plans to have the patches fix these in progress bugged quests or are they bugged forever?

Just so you know that most quest fixes will not work on a quest that is in progress. You will have to go back to a save from before you got the quest to play it through.

What happened with your quest?

companions quest, after I killed the witches I went to turn the quest in only to find the companions base had been attacked. After talking to one of the companions, nothing happened. All the companions are bent over dead bodies and some are lined outside repeating the same lines every time I go there.

Apparently there's supposed to be a followup quest but the NPC who gives it just goes about his normal routine while the other remain in their stuck position.

What if you cancel it prior to the patch? Can you go back and re-accept it?

January, though how they will go about this patch wise (speed of patching) is beyond me.

I hope they fix the bugged quest. I have been fortunate enough to not have any bugs but I would hate to. From what I have read on here the quest bugs are numerous and game stopping and breaking.

I don't know. However quest glitches come from the game not interpreting intermediate conditions correctly. If those conditions are triggered by something you did, then the fix may not work.

To that end, I have yet to come across a quest in this game that has glitched on me that I could not fix by going back to a save from before I got the quest and starting it over. Now, I have not done all the quests yet, but even in Oblivion and the Fallouts, this was the same. And, this was pre-patch on all those games and I am playing pre-patch with Skyrim right now.

I'm sure it would work, I just refuse to load a prior save in order to finish what is probably a lame quest anyway. The corresponding save game for some of these bugged quests (I have 5 or 6) was probably 30 levels ago.

Oh well. No biggie. I can't advance the Thieves Guild questline anymore, but that particular character is a warrior anyway.

That is weird...
Have you tried to speak with every NPC inside the companions?
Vilkas?
But I think he needs to be inside Jorrvaskr...
Is him inside of Jorrvask?

For now they are focusing on Code fixes sadly. On Bethblog they said they'd focus on Quest and Rebalancing in January, which is when the CK is due to be out so I am skeptical. From Bethblog:
If we get too aggressive trying to fix a minor issue, we run a risk of breaking something larger in a game like this. To be safe, we are prioritizing code side fixes right now over data fixes. Quest and balance issues are usually data, and those will start rolling in a large way with the January updates.

You already killed the silver hand leader where the quest would continue and send you. It happened to me as well, I had to go back to the area and use console to resurrect the guy. I don't see a patch doing that for you but I could be wrong.

Can't. I'm on the xbox360. Seems like it's bugged forever.

That svcks :(, the helmet for the jarl of winterhold sends you to the same area so if you do that quest first it breaks the companion quest.

Yeah, this happened to me this morning on the thieves guild quest line, having played til 6am. I'll try to explain everything that I did up to the bug. First of all, I completed the Devlin and Vex side quests first. Then I started the thieve guild main quest line. I only got up to "Dampening Spirits" before Maven will not initiate the next quest to the Honey brewery. I incorrectly wrote Bethesda tech support. They apologized, but said I would indeed have to go back to a save file, which I'm sure I have, but still... what a drag. That's anywhere from 4 - 6 hours spent from probably 2 - 6 in the morning, something that I'd like to hold on to. I should also include, Louis Letrush was continually attacking me through out the game every time I set foot in Riften. Also, I ended up assaulting Maven a hand full of times before knowing that she would be a quest giver. And then I was kicked out of the guild twice because of npcs attacking Maven, apparently at my behest according to the guards of Riften -another bug, but not game breaking. Lastly, I failed at least the first two quests it takes to become a part of the guild (couldn't find the right ring to steal off the lizard and plant on the elf, or something to that effect), but was still accepted into the guild.
So I hope this never happens to any of you. Happy gaming.
