Just wondering if it's just me or not but when I play with 3D switched on there's quite a lot of lag...not as fast flowing as I was expecting.

I have not. However, my boss has a couple 3D tvs and he reports slowdown on all 360 games he plays in 3D. I would assume it having to do with the fact that it's essentially rendering two panes for the 3D rather than one, and especially with a game like Crysis 2 already pushing the hardware, a drop in framerate would be expected.
