There usually comes a point into the game where I would not be able to enter the Arcane University without crashing, and I think that time has come again for me, and that usually means it'll start consistently crash in other certain areas as well, and then I would have to reinstall Oblivion all over again. I couldn't enter it last night no matter how many times I tried, whether it was on a new character or a previously saved game. I can enter it now though, but I'm afraid the problem will come back. I even disabled all my mods last night, but it still crashed for me.

Is there a reason why the Arcane University crashes on me? Is it because of those damn purple flames?

Are you using Mayu's Animation Overhaul?

Err, I don't think so. The only animation that I'm using that I can think of is the talk with your hands animation. But even before I had that animation, it still crashed on me.

Two questions:
(1) Does the game still crash if you enter it with a brand new character (without reinstalling Oblivion)?
(2) If you use the Console to move to the middle of the University, rather than using Fast Travel or traveling through the entrance, does the game still crash?

If the answer to (1) is NO and (2) is YES, then it's probably a nuked cell (i.e. the University has been corrupted somehow in your savegame).

1. Yes, even with a brand new character it crashes.
2. Haven't tried going there through the console command. I just fast traveled there. I'll try it the next time it crashes on me.

I also must note that it crashes in Novaroma in Bruma as well. That's another place that I remember that kept crashing for me in the past.

These 2 crashes might be unrelated.

Try this, before entering the AU, open up the console and type 'pcb'. then try to enter the university.

If this works, your graphics card is out of memory. Might be useful to install OSR to get better performance, or uninstall BC (that's where the purple flames come from, IIRC).

Alrighty, I'll try that when it starts crashing. I do have OSR installed btw, and what's BC?

BC = Better Cities. OCC = Open Cities Complete, OCR = Open Cities Reborn. I think there's an Open Better Cities too, though don't quote me on that.

Ooh, trust me, I wouldn't dream of touching Better Cities with my rig, lol, after seeing so many threads about their games crashing with it. I think the purple flames are there by default.
