Any way to fix your map after messing it up with the Morrowi

I stupidly applied the expanded map patch before I started, even though I'm not using the Tamriel Rebuilt mod nor do I have any intentions to do so. Then I realized the super-zoomed-out map is incredibly awful and awkward. So I naturally uninstalled the patch and reinstalled it without that. And now my map is horribly screwed up. Any way to fix this?

I screwed my map once, Mash helped. Right-click on save, update map, I think.

Can't you open up the MCP file again, unselect the map fix, and click "Apply Patches"? Don't know if that reverses the change or not.

That's basically what I did in order to mess it up, except I chose to "uninstall all", as I figured you can't just uninstall one fix.

Anyway, the Wrye Mash thing worked, sort of. Except now I have huge gridlines on my map that weren't there before and I've still got tiny little squares from the towns that got marked with the expanded map. I wonder if those will go away if I travel through those areas and overwrite them?

You can update the map without the grid lines by unchecking the "world map gridlines" option from the header menu.

You are right that when you visit the areas with line remnants, they will go away. Until then you just have to accept a "messy" map.

Wait, that happened to me too actually. :P There must be a setting for no grid in MASH.

Edit: Ninjad. I should have remember that. But I must ask why that setting is a default behavior?

Probably because Wrye, having written Wrye Mash firstly for his own purposes, wished to have grid lines on his map (to help easily figure out Center On Exterior console command coordinates). One should also consider that Wrye Mash was developed well before MCP and its map patch (mainly intended for Tamriel Rebuilt users) made it onto the modding scene.

From the Wrye Mash docs:
Update Map
• Updates the world map to reflect added and removed landmasses. Use this after adding or removing mods with landmasses, and using Repair All.
• Draws the borders around the visible map area.
• Note that lands located outside of this area will never be drawn. I.e., if you're inside, you should see the land; if you're outside, you should see nothing but blue ocean.
• Draws a grid with spacing of 5 cells centered on the center of the 0, 0 cell.
• Want to use a COE (Center on exterior) console command? Now you can easily figure out what the coordinates are!
• You can disable the gridline drawing by unchecking World Map Gridlines on the column header context menu. However if you've previously drawn the map with the gridlines enabled, you may still see some gridline remnants on the land masses that you've visited. These will not disappear until you re-visit the corresponding cells.
Notes
If you see marked cells for landmasses that have been removed, try using Repair All first.

So, repair the save before reapplying the Update Map function. B)

Yeah, but it's a pain in the ass, looks ugly, and isn't as easy to use as the default map. Plus, when you don't even need the extra map space...
