Any way to "side" with the Fiends?

Post » Mon Aug 01, 2011 5:41 pm

I'd like to make a character that basically behaves like a Fiend. That is, making my base of operations in a Fiend camp in west Vegas, skirmishing with the NCR, and venturing out for chems, ammo, etc. Problem is I know of no way to get the Fiends to accept me. I haven't tried wearing Great Khan armor around them; supposedly the Khans are the only people they don't attack on site...

Is there a way?

Why would you? They're doomed.

It's a concept that interests me. I have no plans to complete the main quest (or even many of the side quests) with this character. Violence will be the first option and the character will be high as a kite as often as possible.

Edit: By the way, we're all doomed. It's just a question of having some fun along the way. :celebration:

If I remember correctly you can go in Vault 3 and convince the gate guard that you're selling chems and you're in, but you need at least 60-75 speech I think.

Thanks, I'll try looking at Vault 3 in the Wiki. If I can just wear Khan armor to make them neutral that's easier, as I didn't plan on a high speech skill for this character. However if that works, I'm in.

Ok, Vault 3 Wiki says I can gain access with either a 64 Speech or by wearing Khan armor. I think I found my solution.

Strange, I've explored at least 90 percent of the map with my various characters, but I don't ever recall stumbling across Vault 3!

Do you have it for PC? I'm sure there's a mod for it...

There's no way to really join them in the vanilla game but if you pretend you're selling them drugs they're not hostile in Vault 3.

Good idea. Yes, I'm on PC so I'll look for a mod as well. I currently run an unmodded game, so that option didn't occur to me.

My thoughts at this point:

Gear
Raider Sadist armor
Any helmet
Laser rifle (Fiends commonly carry energy weapons. When a better plasma weapon is available I'll switch)
A few mines/grenades

Skills
Energy weapons
Medicine (capped at 60, to get the Chemist perk)
Survival (capped at 40, to get Rad Resistance perk)
Barter (Making drug deals every day makes one a decent trader)
Lockpick (Fiends must scrounge to survive.)

Defining perks
Toughness (Raider armor is not so good. Need a little something more)
Chemist (but not Chem Resist. The whole point is to be addicted)
Cannible/Ghastly Scavenger (do what you gotta do)
Action boy (This is a VATS build relying somewhat on Jet)
Rad Resistance (Fiends are tough like cockroaches, if not very powerful)
Scrounger
Fortune Finder

SPECIAL as needed to meet the above perks.

Edit: Traits none, as nothing seems to fit. Only DLC at this point is HH.
2nd Edit: Check that. Fight the Power and Eye for an Eye are possibilities.
3rd Edit: Never mind, those are Perks not Traits.

Maybe you should wear the Fiend's helmet, if you're going to be one of them...

The "Hippie Lettuce" makes you chill. Fiends are not chill. :flamethrower: Otherwise any kind of booze or chem is mandatory.

As for your tag skills, I would go with melee or unarmed, guns or EW, and medicine or lockpick.

Well, for starters, do not complete Three Card Bounty. That much is obvious. I think if you don't do it, the Fiends somewhat stand a chance, but I'm not even sure how great that is.

The ones outside the vault will always be hostile, only in the vault they can be neutral.

Dont take lockpick. The fiends are all too stupid to pick any of the locks in Vault 3, so you should be too. Unless you wanted to make one of the unopened rooms in Vault 3 your own, so you could chill with your gang.

Sounds fun, good luck with it. And yeah has Sebor13 said you should probably wear a fiend's helmet.

On this point I respectfully disagree. Fiends are addicts who come from all segments of society. I'll agree that a Fiend who can hack computers should be very rare, so no Science. But a reasonable amount of dexterity and patience allows the average Fiend to unlock first aid boxes that contain precious, precious drugs.

I think it's a bit unfair you can't become a Raider in Fallout NV (or F3...?). What if my Courier goes insane after being shot in the head twice, and just wants to do a bunch of chems and ...raid. It would be fun to roleplay as one, that's for sure. :cryvaultboy:
