Any word on a hardcoe mode?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:06 pm

This, this, this.

I think the argument about the low percentage of people having finished the game in hardcoe Mode is also stupid because it doesn't take into account all the people who played most of the game in that mode, but just happened to switch to the normal mode a couple of times. Or all the people that played hardcoe Mode for hours and hours but didn't happen to actually finish the game. For example, I only actually finished NV once (even though I did about 3 or 4 full playthroughs where I did most quests and found most locations).

Unless they introduce inventory slot limit( which I don't want ), hardcoe mode didn't add much difficulty or realism.

Anyway if they put hardcoe mode into F4, I guess it will same as radiation, then the HP bar will become rainbow :D

Prepare to be flabbergasted. As from my experience, hardcoe mode wasn't even used by the majority of console players of NV. Also, it opens a huge can of worms bug wise just to make a small niche of the consumer base happy. Even then a good bit of said niche wouldn't be happy with Bethesda's version of a hardcoe mode. All around an absolute waste of time and resources.

Quite. I used it, once. The only significant difference in my playstyle is I carried less ammunition than I normally would. Nuka cola bypassed the sleep requirement to such a degree, I only ever used a bed once.... I always use food and water to heal, so hunger and thirst weren't a problem... and since I do that, the fact stimpaks healed over time didn't matter in the end.... I also always use doctor's bags to heal my limbs.... "hardcoe" mode, would need to be overhauled for it to really impact the game for me.

Because i want the immortal mode to be possible to turn off.

So i need the option to make stimpaks heal over time aswell as all other healing items.

Also food healed instantly in f3.

lol "immortal mode". Guess you'll be severely disappointed when you play Fallout 4.

I think you are 100% wrong.

I think bethesda has made healing over time an option.

F4 will be the best game ever all genres all time (sofar, f5?)

I hope it's included, but if they want me to use it it has to be customisable. The food/drink needs in New Vegas were just arbitrary button clicking after a while, I don't think it added anything good at all. If however I could turn on ammo weight, healing-over-time etc. they'd be turned on in every playthrough.

Oh yeah, and don't call it "hardcoe" mode. There was nothing hardcoe about it.

Fallout 4 will take the spot from fallout 3/NV as the best game ever by the looks of it.

Im sure there will be an option to make healing work over time.

Well, that's what mods are for, giving us things that Beth didn't. There were plenty of really good Needs mods for Skyrim, many of which were compiled with, or had patches for, other mods that added food items etc. By no means is it impossible to add a good needs mod. I am hoping, though, that Beth has already thought of this as it will obviously be better integrated that way.

I hope not...

I want to mod all that in myself since I will be taking it a lot LOOOOT further than hunger, thirst and sleep.

Hell i even added a SPECIAL system into Skyrim, good times but hard work.

I wish they made hardcoe mode more....hardcoe as in NV it felt meh and rarely became a problem.

Doesnt using the fose loader which is needed to run mods disable the steamoverlay?

I find it quite amusing that some of the same people who decried Minecraft's influence on settlement building are the ones shouting loudest for 'survival' mode ;)

Why? Having survival mechanics in a post-apocalyptic setting isn't exactly out of place. Settlement building is a little bit... out of genre.

I still cant find this supposed Interview where Todd said he would talk about hardcoe mode later, just some place reporting on a conversation at the event where they apparently tossed questions at them after the Demonstration and tried to pass it off as an interview and then a whole lot of other places basically taking that and saying HERE'S PROOF ITS IN!

the reality is "were talking about it later" could just as easily mean " we did not put that in and will talk about why we did not put it in later"

Because lets be honest here, the only thing hardcoe did was make it so that Bullets had weight, and those quick naps you took to heal were replaced by quick naps you took just to get rid of sleep. you could basically hit water + Sunset + 1-2 food items a water and maybe a stim pack at the start of a fight and you were fine, if you got in trouble just go through and grab one of each food item in your inventory and pop a second stim pack.

Not really since one of the most popular mods for both Fallout 3 and New Vegas were settlement building mods.

Its out there to find (the article) i read it a few weeks ago i think.

While hardcoe mode might not be in, (something like it better be, healing over time is a must), the way it was said there is some type of mode.

Yeah, I used to have them, they were way too buggy for me to really enjoy though. Doesn't mean it isn't out of genre. Not that it's a bad thing, but I just feel it's a bit odd.

That's right. Player housing mods, especially the more customisable ones, have always been some of the most popular mods for Bethesda games.

As for it not fitting in... humanity striving to rebuild after the apocalypse? I don't see how it's not in tune with the setting.

It's more like modders did it for FO3 and it was one of the more popular stand-alone mods as well as plugins for FWE, so Obsidian noticed for FONV (and their so-called "hardcoe" mode wasn't hardcoe at all, unfortunately) and so it goes. It's easy to mod in, by the way, as long as you use a general/fundamental element as a mechanic. Primary Needs in FO3 used weight and multipliers to determine replenishment because all food has weight. The drinks were broken down by a table, though.

I very much doubt that we'll see a nutrient-tracking type of hardcoe if we get one, though, as those mods are not as popular as much simpler mods.

What would be best is if they could offer an options page for hardcoe so that individual selections could be made by players. For example, select stimpacks heal over time but not food, drink, rest. Various other options, too. However, they would have to have that coded already, of course.

Id love hardcoe mode as follows (check what you want);

Delete game if your character dies/Keep save but mark it with an tomb stone to show character has fallen 1 or more times

Food/drink/sleep. Slider added to how often player needs to fix it.

All healing done over time. Slider added to how long it takes for effects.

Weight ammo, chems. Slider.

Pipboy does not pause time. Slider to how fast/slow time passes
