Do any of you guys still play Oblivion?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:11 am

Just curious. Skyrim is by far the better game in my opinion, but sometimes I find myself drawn back to the warm, cosmopolitan Cyrodiil. What about you guys? Is there anything in Oblivion you like more than Skyrim? What, if anything, makes you go back to older TES, and what brings you back to Skyrim?

For me, it's the magic. The dual wielding system is fun in Skyrim, but magic is much more fun to play with in Oblivion, with all the extra spells and spell creation. I like the guild storylines more too. Vampires are pretty fun, though for some reason you look old as one. Stealth svcks compared to Skyrim in my opinion. I find it easier to roleplay in Oblivion for some reason. Maybe it's all the race-specific greetings, or the fact that I actually have friends and enemies, and a morality system. I can actually get bandits and dremora to be my friends if I do the right things. More daedra for that matter. Also, I actually like Cyrodiil. Visually it could have been done better, but I liked the lore, the ancient elven ruins with strangler vines tightly coiled around white pillars. The contrast between the ancient Cyrodiil slave-race and the modern sophisticated Imperials they turned in to. Also, I like how altmer are actually TALL in first person haha.

Still I always end up coming back to Skyrim because it has better graphics, dual wielding, better combat a more intetesting-looking province, and it's just something new. What about you guys?

I miss Oblivion. Played it so many times. Sad I traded it in to get Skyrim for cheap. Cheap-er I mean.

I still play Oblivion sometimes. I miss the Ayleid ruins and I do like some of the forts and wandering the roads and forests and the Shivering Isles is kewl.. Oblivion has a different feel to it that I like but I do prefer Skyrim.

And how repetitive the Ayelid ruins got after a while..."Oh, I've seen this room before...Oh look, another easily navigated spike trap...That does hardly any damage."

I picked up the 5th Anniversary edition not to long ago, still a great game, but it makes you appreciate Skyrim a lot more especially the graphics and combat, also Shivering Isles is still as good as it ever was :tes:

I miss it sometimes, the landscape always seemed a lot more positive than skyrims harsh weathered lands, but when I go to play on it again I realise how much i've grown to rely on things like sprinting and decent archery damage

I do sometimes. I prefer playing Daggerfall or Morrowind if I feel like playing older TES games, and I usually play the older ones, anyway.

Cyrodil always seemed bigger to me. And I liked the cities, guilds and characters more. (Amusei, Gray Fox, Teinaava and Lucien Lachance <3)

The bounty system would drive me crazy, though.

Of course it's just my opinion! Haha. I want to know though, what do you like more about Oblivion? What dont you like about Skyrim? Did you read the rest of the OP? I want to know your thoughts, whether you agree or disagree.

This. I wonder what Oblivion would be like Skyrim's improvements, but with all the things that made oblivion so great.....And as long as I'm dreaming, throw in some Morrowind as well.

After reading the OP it seems hard to understand his/her justification for Skyrim being the better game after all the praise lavished on Oblivion & it's features, Do dual wield, better graphics & a more interesting province really translate into a "much better" game compared to the stack of praise you gave Oblivion?(Better guilds, spells, spell creation, racial interaction, morality system, easier to roleplay) I'm inclined to believe that "it's just something new" plays a big part.

As for me i still play Oblivion regularly(texture mods no overhauls), The world design & dungeon design just seem richer for me as do the towns & cities, I just prefer a more cosmopolitan world i suppose, As far as the typical cut & paste accusations that are aimed at Oblivion i'm finding that Skyrim has more than it's fair share of it too.

Both are great games that fit happily side by side on my PC, However i doubt that i will still be playing skyrim in six years time.

As much as I loved Oblivion, the level system kind of ruined the game for me.

You guys are really taking me too seriously haha. I like what I like. I'm just wondering what makes you play the older games or what doesn't. We dont need to get all technical here. This is just for fun. Anyway, I gave oblivion a lot of praise, but thats because I wasn't talking about the problems I thought it had. I'm trying to stay light hearted in this thread, as opposed to my usual angry rants haha.

I spent many hours on it, but I stopped playing it when Fallout 3 was released (stopped playing Fallout 3 when Skyrim was released)

Yeah, Fallout was great, but the setting was too different to replace TES for me.

I still play Oblivion since I like how you get much more invested in the guilds then in Skyrim. When it takes 10 hours just to finish a guild from start to finish, it feels better when you are in charge of it... Skyrim is still a great game that I love to play though.
