Any of you on a play through not using fast travel

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 11:34 pm

Im thinking my next play through i should do this but i want to get your guys take on it that is doing it. Does it get boring or is it more immersive? I can see a play through like this being extremly long but that should be fine. Anyway, just want to hear your thoughts on the pros and cons ass well as your starting perks and how it compliments this play style. EDIT: title was supposed to read Are any of you on a play through not using fast travel. ... I hit the back button and didnt realise the title reset srry

I only fast travel to and from settlements connected by a supply line.

In the future i will download an immersive fast travel alternative mod and just use that.

The Supply Lines feature makes no-fast-travel-run more convenient for sure. I usually do No-Fast-Travel playthrough in all Bethesda's games but since it's my first one, I allow myself to fast travel from settlement to settlement if there is a supply line between them and I love it.

You discover more of the world, pay more attention to what is where. Looting is a little more difficult and you need to be more aware of what you need _now_ instead of cleaning up the wasteland. Of course, it also mean you will fail some timed quests, but who care? (as far as I know, only repeatable quests are timed, I might be wrong though). As far as Perks, I don't think it changes anything at all... maybe more carrying capacity? It's not required but handy. You might want to take a look at all the cooking and healing perks too, being able to do more with less is helping when you can't just fast travel to a camp.

I have used map-based fast travel in a Bethesda game since Oblivion, in 2006. I don't plan to start now.

I'm certainly not planning that. Fast travel is a convenience that falls under quality of life that was lacking in older games, and while some may find nostalgia in the old ways by calming is more immersive. Would anyone also find it more immersive to use an outhouse during the cold winters when you have a perfectly good bathroom inside the warmth of your house?

No, I don't relish the days of starring for hours on end at the screen while my character "walks" towards more grass.

I think I'll probably do something like Twisted, only fast travel between supply line settlements, pretend I'm hitching a ride on a caravan, on my next play through. I'm also gonna limit the number of weapons I can carry and the amount of random junk I pick up. Gonna stick to the small, valuable things and buy the things I need for crafting. If I could give ammo a weight that would also be nice, a negligible weight but a little nonetheless. I'll probably use ammo as my main bartering tool.
