Anybody else in the same position?

Just wondering if I'm the only one with an aging computer and means to replace it, but not the will to do so until TES5 is announced.

My current box can run Obilvion with OOO and several other mods (though not with QTP3-and-Better_Cities, not enough GPU RAM), but that means it was a hot box five-six years ago. And that means AGP card, single core proc... which is to say my next upgrade is essentially an entire computer replacement.

I do most of my gaming on the 360 these days, but I've really been getting the feeling that I need to update my computer, and at the moment I've got some cash in hand. The temptation to get my tax return and pick up a pre-made gaming computer is getting pretty strong.

But, I don't want to buy a computer this year, only for it to be 'medium level performance' when TES5 comes out, whenever that may be.

I'm really hoping to hear something about TES5 in the next three months or so (y'know, E3 is in June, just sayin'), which would help me make purchase plans before life finds some way to seperate me from my small stash of spare cash.

There is nothing to do but wait, or pull the trigger on a purchase and hope for the best, but I was thinking about it and thought it would be interesting to know how many other TES fans are similarly stalling new hardware/computers in anticipation of the next game?

My old computer's motherboard went kaput recently. The cost of replacing it was prohibitive so I'm currently saving for a new one. As soon as I can afford one with decent enough specs to play FO3 and DAO I'll buy it. TES V is 1-2 years from release I'd guess. I'm not using this pile of junk that struggles with MW until then.

my PC is still running Fallout 3 and Oblivion like a dream. i've been toying with the idea of adding another hard drive and new fans (i'm always rearranging my fans to try and find the quietest arrangement). I don't really need a new machine right away, but i have decided to start purchasing components for a new build in about 12 months...with that timeline, i'm sure i'll beat TES5 by years ... :P

As of now, I don't have any way to afford upgrading my computer, and even if I could, I wouldn't wait until the Elder Scrolls V, since such a game hasn't even been confirmed, it's too far off to wait. Besides, I doubt the next Elder Scrolls game will be as demanding as Crysis, or if it is, by its time, other more demanding games will already be released, so really, there's no need to wait.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying I think the next TES game will be crazy demanding for its time, but that my current computer sure isn't going to be able to run any game released in one or two (or more) years from now. I'm pretty much maxed out with TF2 and Oblivion. OTOH, I'm not doing much other PC gaming, so...

I dont play many games, TESV will probably be the next game I buy, thats how much a gamer I am.

I can run OB smooth as butter with my 4870, but my c2d processor and ram will need an upgrade, which i'll do when I hear about a new TES

I only play PC games that my laptop can handle...which isn't saying much...for the high demand games, I use my 360 :P

"No - I'm not a PC gamer, and I'm praying to Stendarr that TES5 will have a console release"

Why would it not be released to console?

Thanks to consoles, even new PC games work fine with older machines. So if TES5 comes out while X360 and PS3 are still kicking, and it's multiplatform, our crappy PCs are capable of handling it. Mine is quite old already, and Mass Effect and Dragon Age work like a charm.

BUT if need be, I'm using TES5 as a great excuse to upgrade ^^

If you look at the PC specs in my signature, you'll see I have a pretty decent midrange system. This system can run a modded Oblivion and DAO stable at 45-150 FPS, depending on what's going on, so I really don't need an upgrade at the moment. By the time TESV comes out, it will probably be time to start looking at upgrade options. Until then, there's really no point for me. Besides, even if the game is announced, we probably won't see system requirements on the game until a few weeks, at best, before the game is released. So, really no point in looking right now.

I really need a new computer, but I will wait awhile for any information on TES V. If there's no word by 2011, I will have to upgrade.

Keep in mind that so long as your computer is better than an Xbox 360 or PS3 (which isn't hard) chances are you will be fine for the next TES game.

TES:V will give me a good excuse to grab a fairly new GPU near its release time; that's about it. Did the same when Oblivion was released, and I can only be thankful prices have dropped so significantly since then.

No. Already upgraded my GPU last autumn. Don't care enough about TES5 (it hasn't even been officially confirmed yet!) at the moment to actually make any plans around its mythological released date.

And even then, I'll wait until the price is affordable and all the hideous bugs are marginally ironed out (we know how loving and devoted Bethesda is to their games and striving toward quality at the post-release... NOT) - probably by modders - which will be at least a few years. By then, hardware prices will have fallen from astronomical to barely affordable.

don?t plan any major upgrades, change from my 1 gb sticks to 2 gb,eventually ssd or bigger raptor/hd,longer term another cpu, gpu is ok,assume it gets replaced when the time comes for tes 5 regardless.and the newest games I play is oblivion, have fallout 3 but haven?t played it yet, also assuming tes 5 gets playable on most pc?s,but will need beefier gear for the good eyecandy if one should judge by their earlier titles.

I haven't upgraded my computer since 2005, when some pieces cooked up. Even then, I didn't buy the pieces with Oblivion's release in mind. I just bought cheap hardware, which can run un-modded Oblivion at Medium Quality and modded Oblivion at lowest quality. Same for Fallout 3.

Maybe I'll be able to play un-modded TESV with low settings and install some mods, which will be perfect for me. I'm not broke, but I just don't see the need to upgrade my PC at all. It has crappy specs for "today", but it runs the games and apps I need, so that makes it good in my book. :)

PC I have at the moment can run Oblivion mid-quality, but it's only really stable and smooth at low quality. Seen as TES is the only game series I play on PC, I'll probably upgrade if TES:V is announced

The last time I bought a new PC was when Oblivion was released. I will need a new one soon.

Despite playing far fewer games on PC than consoles, I've dabbled with Command and Conquer, Age of Conan, and so forth, but I have an inversely related interest in PC modding and upgrading. Something about the Frankenstein in me wants to pull out all the wires and make a monster.

I feel like I've missed out on mods for TES, moreso for Morrowind than Oblivion, so I'd like to try TESV on PC. My comp is about 1 year old now, so will be pretty outdated at release. If I can upgrade my PC for less than $150, I'd be tempted to do that instead of buying another console. Luckily, my dad is a tech guy, so despite my lack of knowledge, he can walk me through it.

Just to check back in with this thread after a week or whatever...

- One guy took issue with "hoping it comes out on consoles" - fair enough. These days PC only releases of AAA games are rare indeed, and you stand to make a lot more money with a multiplatform release, so I would agree that a console release is a given, however nothing has been announced so far regardless.

- My computer, for the very curious or bored is a circa-2004-5 home built 3ghz Pentium 4 (single core), 2gb RAM, and a Radeon (by way of HIS) X800XT-PE (256mb, AGP), and a stack of harddrives. It was a beast in 2005, but then I built it to last knowing I was going to university and would no longer be able afford further upgrading (except replacing a worn-out CRT with a good-deal 22" widescreen LCD) for several years. But, those specs are really not nearly as impressive in 2010 (nor 2011, 2012) than they were in 2005, and frankly it still runs very warm and loud (lots of fans, too much heat...)

- I've played heavily modded Oblivion on this PC and had a tremendous time with it, just a blast. More recently I've played through the (mod-free) Xbox 360 "GOTY + SI" version with all the DLC (bought that last April when it was half price). It was great both times, but I think a PC with the CS and a TESNexus account is the ideal way to play the game, for me at least. That said, I did get all 1250 gamerpoints.

- TES is really my 'computer' game. I play lots of other PC games, but its experiences like Oblivion and Fallout 3 that really compell me to invest in hardware.

Ugh, I dread having to upgrade for TES V. My computer is so meh and the upgrades will be so expensive ; _ ;

I guess that's the price I must pay for Vivec's love. ;_;

Not I. My computer should handle it fine on max settings. Unless they do something ridiculously advanced and you need a supercomputer to run it, I should be safe. :D

I voted " No - I have recently, or will soon buy new hardware so I can game better now and hope TES5 isn't the next "Crysis" or some BS", but I don't think I have anything to be concerned about.

(edit) ...unless it doesn't come before 2013.

Hm, I think my computer can handle anything right now. I run Oblivion at 60-50 fps on max settings with QTP3 and other mods.

I wouldn't suggest that you hold your breath for TESV when we don't even have a valid statement that Bethseda developers are working on it, go upgrade your computer and play other games while waiting for TESV, if you've got the money.
