Anybody kind of tired of the save the world route these game

Post » Sat Oct 15, 2011 1:49 pm

No dragon age 2 got blasted because the game was horrifically stripped down from its far superior predecessor. You couldn't even choose a race any more. However the actual story line of freeing the mages, and recreating the mage ruled society was an interesting one.

I saw MANY people complain about DA 2's story being svckish because it wasn't one of those "SAVE TEH WORLD FROM UNENDING EVIL" lines like DA1 was.

Play Dragon Age 2, it is about you and your companions taking some stuff that indirectly gets half the city, the game is about, killed and not really getting the feeling you did something good in the end.
You don;t get to save the world, but because the crap you did in the city, every mage in the world goes into a rampage for some awkard reason and theres nothing you can do because every choice in the game pretty much lead to the same result.

I hate you Dragon Age 2, GIVE ME BACK MA MONUH EA!

Edit: Wow, surprised at all these people thinking about DA 2 just like me.

You still play the saviour role in DA2, just not directly (but still indirectly) on a world scale this time. I enjoyed Dragon Age 2 story.

I enjoyed DA2 as well. I was just pointing out many didn't

The lack of changing companion armor didn't bother me, nor did the cartoonish animations, its a game why should i expect realism?

I concur OP.

Compare Fallout 3 and NV. Which one had the better story (and severely worse bug issues, but anyway)? Which one was about saving the world (more or less) and which one wasn't? Oh.

You can do the same thing with Oblivion and Nehrim. Nehrim has a far better story, which, just like New Vegas, coincidentally wasn't really about saving the world but shaping its future.

But no, Beth can't get innovative and we get stuck with the same old 'save the world' style stories again and again and again. Mind you, at least they've managed to develop some reasonably good lore to back it up rather than just setting up a new, unfathomable evil that comes from nowhere every time.

The MQ has never really been the purpose of the Elder scrolls game IMO.

Planescape Torment had a great story which didn't involve saving the world. :)

I admit, probably the number 1 cliche i hate more then anything in games is the whole "chosen one" "its your destiny" "save the world!" thing. why do we have to be chosen, can't we just be a plain old badass?

Why not conquer the world?
I want to play as a dragon!

Well we wouldn't be a background character, we would be the main one, and we would be participating in much more interesting plot lines, and intrigues with in the land while a possible unavoidable disaster descends on the world. I mean this pretty much already the way the game plays out for most people as they don't touch the main quest for hours, and hours as the main quest give rather lame plot development, and rewards.

Ok. So...you don't want to be a background character, I get that. You are the main character, and you are responsible for...what? Enlighten me, because I don't know how you can write the main story without being a savior. Even in DA:2 your character was a hero, responsible for the downfall of a great corruption. Isn't that also saving the world?

No matter how you write the story, if your character is a 'hero' it's going to involve saving something. I'm honestly curious how you would like to see the story work.

Very.

Also; if you don't feel like saving the world... Just don't? I just let it rot in Oblivion. Doing the main quest isn't a requirement to enjoying the game.

while its generally necessary to be some sort of hero in these sort of games, i would rather it wasnt just because we were the chosen one, and id rather it wasnt just about saving the world. saving the world is just a sort of cheap way of making us care, instead of writing the story in such a way that it makes us care about something else enough to want to save it.

at least i would rather it be that way in more linear games, because in a game like TES a story like that would be too limiting. it would try to shape your character for you.

anyway the main quest in TES is just an excuse to give you an awesome world in which to make your own story which suits your character. your not forced to do the main quest at any point.

i will probably not be doing the main quest in with my first character, a theif, but i might do so with my gandalf character. if not ill eventually create a character with reason to do the main quest.

Ignoring the issue doesn't make it go away. It just tends to tell people that it's okay to repeat it. :sadvaultboy:

Yep I am really saving stuff in the dark brotherhood, and in the mages guild where I was destroying a rival organization. Oh and how about the thieves guild where we save every body the need of carrying around all those heavy possessions. Look it not a "hero" where playing as it is a person just living there life in this strange world.

Well, hasn't the entire ES series been the Elder Scroll's prophecy unfolding? Skyrim is the last part of that prophecy, so in TES6, we may not have to become the big world-saving hero.

Start early to get the dragons in.

complete main quest
umm... do stuff

That would be a nice change of paste, but once again this is just me complaining about the lack luster main quest, compared to the other 4 primary ones, or even just walking around being much more interesting then mq.

totally agree with you
i wouldve much rather have been a mill worker with no magic abilities or dragon shouts
and instead of saving the world, just cut wood for the 300 hours of the game :vaultboy:
