Anybody kind of tired of the save the world route these game

Post » Sat Oct 15, 2011 11:31 pm

I like the idea of a pressing danger facing the world.................... I just don't like the idea of the "chosen One" thing. I would actually prefer it if the situation was hopeless, and then kind of just resolves it self. While I watch if from the back ground doing much much more interesting things.

"WHen are you touching the Main Quest."

It depends what the Main Quest opens up, if its done like Oblivion where it opens up gates, then I will postpone the MQ. I am the same, I like having pressing danger though, I just don't like how it was in Oblivion where when you wanted to venture from the MQ you always came across darks skies and a open Gate Nearby. It seemed that way for me anyways. I just kinda hope it doesn't make drastic world changing effects in the environment when starting the MQ. Not complaining, I just started two characters and one I just did side quest and everything else but the MQ. The other of course was mostly focused on the MQ and whatever else.

That...doesn't make sense. Why would you want to play a background character? I don't know how that can be exciting. When people fantasize, they are always the center of the fantasy. Why have a fantasy where someone or something else is the 'hero'?

There needs to be conflict and a focus on the main character or a story can get boring pretty fast.

Resolves itself? I dont care how posmodernist you want your fantasy to be, but stories solving themselves is cheating the reader.

What would you have the main quest be about?

I have yet to play a game where I'm not the hero of some sort and I'm not trying to save someone, a group of people, the world, the universe or multiple uiverses's. If I wanted some sappy story line I would watch a chick flick in the theatres, which you NEVER see me do... EVER.

I WANT to save the world, I'm the hero. I expect nothing less.

Absolutely, and killing the imminent threat does not have to be part of our goal, but more of a side effect of what we are doing.

Well, pretty much all RPGs are anyway. I'm pretty sure SquareSoft in their glory days cemented that pretty conclusivley. At this point, an RPG isn't even an RPG if you're not saving the world.

Though in truth, in the case of most RPGs I've played, the ones I really enjoyed were the ones that kind of put that on the back burner and focused on the characters more (FF7 and X, Knights of the Old Republic, Legend of the Dragoon, Mass Effect (the first one), Shadow Hearts: New World, Xenosaga etc.).

As for Skyrim (and TES games in general), characters, story, whatever, give me some spells, some swords, and some sixy dungeons and you can back burn the whole save the world, explore the characters thing forever.

Considering the RPG that didn't go "save the world" aka Dragon age 2 was blasted because of its "unimportant story" no i don't think its old

I thought the idea of "fantasy" was role-playing as a heroic or villainy character in a different surrounding?

If you get bored of 1 or the other than obviously you have gone of the fantasy subject.

Well we wouldn't be a background character, we would be the main one, and we would be participating in much more interesting plot lines, and intrigues with in the land while a possible unavoidable disaster descends on the world. I mean this pretty much already the way the game plays out for most people as they don't touch the main quest for hours, and hours as the main quest give rather lame plot development, and rewards.

No dragon age 2 got blasted because the game was horrifically stripped down from its far superior predecessor. You couldn't even choose a race any more. However the actual story line of freeing the mages, and recreating the mage ruled society was an interesting one.

I prefer more personal stories, where our character's motivation may slightly overlap with saving the world, but is more about something personal or mundane in the end. I also am not a fan of indiscriminately taking down cosmic/powerful beings without any kind of negative repercussions.

Taking down Alduin, who is one of the divine ought to cause the rest of the Aedra to withdraw their influence and scorn us, or damage the flow of time in such a way, that fixing it ends up being the task of the next game's hero.
