It was just some Photoshopped images of what a better interface might look like, from back in 2011, before modders knew much about modding the GUI. No significant progress was ever made on it.

I'm sure I was subconsciously channeling those design mock ups.
The grid approach is great. The simplicity of skyrim's UI is great. The simplicity of Skyrim's UI structure/ user experience? Not so much!
